Vanishing Kids – Miracle of Death (Review)

Vanishing Kids - Miracle of DeathThis is the sixth album from US doom band Vanishing Kids.

Miracle of Death offers up 42 minutes of luscious Gothic doom, sprinkled with psychedelia, shoegaze, and oceans of atmosphere. It’s an absorbing listen, one that showcases the style and personality of Vanishing Kids in the best of lights.

These songs have a heart of traditional doom metal spliced with Gothic flavour, shoegaze colour, and psychedelic texture. It’s a highly atmospheric work that’s worthy of acclaim; Vanishing Kids have managed that rarest of things – the effective balance between instant appeal and longevity. Miracle of Death firmly grabs you the first time you hear it, but only draws you in further and further with every visit to its sublime waters.

The music drips with emotion from every last pore. It’s rich with feeling; every guitar riff or melody, every layer of synth/organ/string/piano/keyboard/whatever, every single utterance from the band’s talented and compelling singer are imbued with the sort of emotive depth that’s impossible to ignore. This is a band that know how to play music that reaches deep into the listener and makes an impact.

Miracle of Death is a heartbreakingly beautiful album. It delivers an ethereal, dreamy journey into darkened worlds of experiential wonder. It feels both ancient and timeless, presenting as an album that just works and just feels right. Miracle of Death is captivating, and the sort of album to remember and revisit for years to come.

Essential listening.
