Fit for an Autopsy are a deathcore band from the US and this is their fifth album.
This album follows on from 2017’s hugely enjoyable The Great Collapse, which stood tall and proud as an example of deathcore that took influence from the original parameters of the genre, but had also progressed beyond it. The Sea of Tragic Beasts finds the band continuing down their chosen path, merging deathcore ferocity with post-deathcore progressive atmospherics and emotional content. Coffin Rot’s self-titled demo from last year made an impression, so how could I pass up on the band’s first full-length? This is the third album from US deathcore/death metal band Signs of the Swarm.
I enjoyed 2017’s The Disfigurement of Existence, which took the standard deathcore template and injected into it brutal slamming death metal and the very occasional bout of melody and atmosphere. Entrails are a reliable death metal juggernaut. With both Obliteration and World Inferno the band produced highly enjoyable exemplars of the classic Swedish death metal style, and now with Rise of the Reaper they’re back once again with another 47 minutes of buzzsaw worship. 2016’s Sonoran Depravation and the band’s split release with Iron Reagan in 2018 were both extremely enjoyable, revealing a talent for old-school death metal.
