Strangle Wire – The Dark Triad (Review)

Strangle WireStrangle Wire are an Irish death metal band and this is their latest EP.

This is the follow up to the band’s debut release Narcissism, which was an enjoyable brief introduction to Strangle Wire’s brand of nastiness. They are now back, and I’ve pleased to say they have built on their initial promise. Both of the songs on the band’s first release have resurfaced on The Dark Triad, but now they’ve brought friends to the party too. Continue reading “Strangle Wire – The Dark Triad (Review)”

King Goat – Debt of Aeons (Review)

King GoatThis is the second album from King Goat, a progressive doom metal band from the UK.

I’ve been extremely excited for this one. This is a band that takes everything I love about traditional doom metal and combines it with a progressive metal element that sees the songs soar above almost all of their so-called peers with ease. Continue reading “King Goat – Debt of Aeons (Review)”

Boss Keloid – Melted on the Inch (Review)

Boss KeloidBoss Keloid are a UK progressive sludge/doom metal band and this is their fourth album.

2016’s immense Herb Your Enthusiasm was a landmark release for the band. It was, quite simply, such a good Continue reading “Boss Keloid – Melted on the Inch (Review)”

Interview with Aorlhac

Aorlhac Logo

Aorlhac have recently released their third album, (and closing part of a trilogy), L’esprit des Vents. This is an epic and melodic album that takes the fire of the black metal second wave and fuses it into passionate, atmospheric music that still retains plenty of aggressive bite. It’s a very strong release, and one that I readily recommend you check out.

I was privileged enough to be able to ask the band’s vocalist Spellbound some questions about the album and the band, so have a read of the below and give the album a listen… Continue reading “Interview with Aorlhac”

Clawing – Spectral Estate (Review)

ClawingThis is the debut album from US drone/noise band Clawing.

This is a harrowing, uncomfortable trip into dark ambient, drone, noise, and doom waters. Apparently this is a concept album about night terrors, child abuse, and haunted houses. No, this is not a light and friendly listen. Continue reading “Clawing – Spectral Estate (Review)”

Ende – Goétie Funeste (Review)

EndeEnde are a French black metal band and this is their fourth album.

I very much enjoy Ende’s work. Both 2015’s The Rebirth of I and 2017’s Emën Etan were effective examples of traditionally-delivered raw black metal, played well and with good songs. It’s only actually been a year since Emën Etan, but it seems there has been no rest in the Ende camp. Their lack of sleep is to our benefit, however. Continue reading “Ende – Goétie Funeste (Review)”
