Ommadon are a doom/drone band from the UK and this is their sixth album.
We’ve encountered Ommadon before with the massive V, but it’s been a while since I’ve had a chance to catch up with their immersive take on doom. Continue reading “Ommadon – End Times (Review)”
This is the debut album from Italian metal band Gigantomachia.
Here’s a somewhat evocatively heroic release. Mixing elements of melodic, doom, death, and epic metal into a meaty metal base, Gigantomachia have produced 41 minutes of engaging metal. Continue reading “Gigantomachia – Atlas (Review)”
This is the debut album from UK sludge/Post-Metal band Archelon.
Last year I came across Archelon’s I//II, which compiled their two previous EPs. This showed the band’s development and progression from their debut EP to the next, and promised very good things for the future. Well, the future is now, and Tribe of Suns is the 46-minute embodiment of the band’s previously seen promise. Continue reading “Archelon – Tribe of Suns (Review)”
Apocrophex are a US death metal band and this is their second album.
Now here’s a band I really like. Their debut EP Wheels Within Wheels showed great promise, which they then followed up with a year or so later with the stunning Suspended from the Cosmic Altaar. Continue reading “Apocrophex – Æternalis (Review)”
Brond are a Bulgarian rock band and this is their debut album.
Brond’s music mixes riff-focused modern rock and post-hardcore/rock, with progressive, stoner, and noise/math rock tendencies. Wow. Now there’s a description. Delivering eight tracks across almost 44 minutes of music, Graveyard Campfire is a well-realised and enjoyable release, despite my mangling together of various subgenres in an attempt to loosely categorise it. Continue reading “Brond – Graveyard Campfire (Review)”
Carcinoma and Abyssal are both blackened death metal bands from the UK that have teamed up for this split.
Carcinoma open the split, with four tracks lasting 15 minutes in duration. Continue reading “Carcinoma/Abyssal – Apanthropinization – Split (Review)”
Lik are a Swedish death metal band and this is their second album.
Carnage is aptly named, containing 37 minutes of old-school destruction and dirty brutality. Featuring members of Continue reading “Lik – Carnage (Review)”
This is the fourth album from US black metallers Wolvhammer.
This is the much-awaited follow-up to 2014’s Clawing into Black Sun, which was one of my favourite releases of that year. To say I’ve been looking forward to this album is an understatement. Continue reading “Wolvhammer – The Monuments of Ash & Bone (Review)”
CHRCH are a doom/sludge band from the US and this is their second album.
My first encounter with CHRCH was on their split with Fister. I think you can safely say that I fell in love with them at that point, so it’s very exciting that their latest full length release is now here with a new 47 minutes of material for me to get lost in. Continue reading “CHRCH – Light Will Consume Us All (Review)”
Slaughterday are a German death metal band and this is their latest EP.
I have a huge soft spot for Slaughterday. Ostensibly no different to any number of other old-school death metal bands, there’s just something hard to define about them that I just really enjoy, (check out Nightmare Vortex, Ravenous, and Laws of the Occult to see what I mean). Continue reading “Slaughterday – Abattoir (Review)”
