Hoth – Astral Necromancy (Review)

HothHoth are a melodic black metal band from the US and this is their third album.

Astral Necromancy takes the listener on a 50-minute trip through a cosmic abyss of sorts. An ambitious and vast release, the songs are sparkling and multifaceted as they tear through their playing time. Continue reading “Hoth – Astral Necromancy (Review)”

Gutter Instinct – Heirs of Sisyphus (Review)

Gutter InstinctThis is the second album from Gutter Instinct, a Swedish death metal band.

Ahh, I love the sound of Swedish death metal crushing its enemies in the morning, (what’s left of it at least – see later). This is especially the case when the style has a malignant blackened sheen to it, as it does with Gutter Instinct’s malevolent output. Having said that, with every release Gutter Instinct change and refine their sound, and this is true of this latest release, as we’ll see. Interview with Abstracter

Abstracter Logo

The latest Abstracter album – Cinereous Incarnate – is a twisted, blackened work of dark art. In my humble opinion it’s the band’s best work to date, and I heavily recommend that you grab it when it’s released on Friday of this week.

Without any further preamble, have a look at the interview with the band below. If that doesn’t further convince you to check out Cinereous Incarnate, then the stream at the bottom hopefully will. Bring on the end times! Continue reading “Interview with Abstracter”

Incorporea – To Exorcize the Sun (Review)

IncorporeaIncorporea are a Spanish black metal band and this is their debut EP.

Here we have a darkly atmospheric 12 minutes of music. The two songs on this EP are very enjoyable examples of what Incorporea are capable of. Full of bleak, depressive atmosphere layered with cold aggression, this brief foray into the land of Incorporea is definitely worth the trip. Magister Dixit – Their Blood, Their Sweat, Their Tears (Review)

Magister DixitMagister Dixit are a melodic black metal band from Canada and this is their sixth album.

Deathgrave – So Real, It’s Now (Review)

DeathgraveThis is the debut album from US grindcore band Deathgrave.

Here we have a violent 27 minutes of brutal grindcore. Mixing deathgrind, powerviolence, and punk into its abrasive attack, So Real, It’s Now is impressively rabid. However, and very interestingly, there’s more here than just aggressive tendencies. Continue reading “Deathgrave – So Real, It’s Now (Review)”
