Evilyn – Mondestrunken (Review)

Evilyn - MondestrunkenEvilyn are an international death metal band and this is their debut album.

Evilyn play a form of death metal with strong avant-garde/dissonant leanings. Mondostrunken contains 36 minutes of material, showcasing a band that have honed their vision into an atypical beast. Continue reading “Evilyn – Mondestrunken (Review)”

Vile Rites – Senescence (Review)

Vile Rites - SenescenceVile Rites are a death metal band from the US and this is their debut album.

Vile Rites contain a member of Mortuous in their ranks, which is enough to get my attention. Senescence offers us 40 minutes of progressive death metal of a high quality. Some bands playing this sort of style get bogged down in the technicality, but for Vile Rites this is just an enabler, not the prime goal of the music. Aseitas – Eden Trough (Review)

Aseitas - Eden TroughThis is the third album from US death metal band Aseitas.

2020’s False Peace was a mammoth album, brimming with ideas, boasting 11 tracks, and lasting 72 minutes. On Eden Trough Aseitas trim down to a more manageable 5 tracks and a much-shorter 30 minutes, leading me to wonder if their experimental death metal is still as multifaceted and layered as it was previously? Atræ Bilis – Aumicide (Review)

Atræ Bilis - AumicideThis is the second album from Canadian death metal band Atræ Bilis.

Following on from 2021’s Apexapien, Atræ Bilis have now returned with 40 minutes of new material. As enjoyable as that record was, Aumicide is something else. Continue reading “Atræ Bilis – Aumicide (Review)”

In Vain – Solemn (Review)

In Vain - SolemnThis is the fifth album from Norwegian progressive metal band In Vain.

I really, really liked 2018’s Currents, so to my mind it has been far too long since we’ve heard from In Vain. Featuring 61 minutes of new music, Solemn is a grand affair, mixing together the band’s progressive/melodic death metal ingredients into a feast of tasty extreme metal. Continue reading “In Vain – Solemn (Review)”

Nuclear Tomb – Terror Labyrinthian (Review)

Nuclear Tomb - Terror LabyrinthianNuclear Tomb are a death/thrash metal band from the US and this is their debut album.

Nuclear Tomb play an intriguing mix of death and thrash metal that combines a ferocious attack with progressive wanderings and idiosyncratic layers. Exploding across 33 minutes, Terror Labyrinthian impresses with its ambition, scope, and beating heart of passionate steel. Continue reading “Nuclear Tomb – Terror Labyrinthian (Review)”

Civerous – Maze Envy (Review)

Civerous - Maze EnvyThis is the second album from US death metallers Civerous.

We last met Civerous on their 2020 split with Stygian Obsession, so it’s great to be able to hear a full album from them. Brought to us by members of Aylwin and TzompantliMaze Envy contains 42 minutes of cavernous death that’s wrapped around doom and black metal elements. Continue reading “Civerous – Maze Envy (Review)”

Convulsing – Perdurance (Review)

Convulsing - PerduranceThis is the third album from Convulsing, a solo death metal band from Australia.

I haven’t caught up with Convulsing since their immense 2017 split with Siberian Hell Sounds, so we’re well overdue. Perdurance lasts 48 minutes, (56 with the bonus Porcupine Tree cover), and is a monster of avant-garde death metal. Continue reading “Convulsing – Perdurance (Review)”

Slimelord – Chytridiomycosis Relinquished (Review)

Slimelord - Chytridiomycosis RelinquishedThis is the debut album from UK death/doom metal band Slimelord.

Chytridiomycosis Relinquished comes to us from current/ex-members of Cryptic Shift and Horrified, which should bode well for Slimelord. This coupled with the promo stating that this is for fans of Disembowelment, Immolation, Gojira, Morbid Angel, Voidceremony, Tomb Mold, Edge of
Sanity, and Morbus Chron, made me quite intrigued to check out Chytridiomycosis Relinquished, as that’s quite the mix. Continue reading “Slimelord – Chytridiomycosis Relinquished (Review)”
