Lethvm – Winterreise (Review)

Lethvm – Winterreise (Review)

Lethvm - WinterreiseLethvm are a post-metal band from Belgium, and this is their third album.

Recommended in the promo blurb as being for fans of Neurosis, early Cult of Luna, and LLNN, this is a good indicator of what you’ll find on Winterreise. I’d also say if you take LLNN, expand their apocalyptic sound with Cult of Luna’s textured influence, then Continue reading “Lethvm – Winterreise (Review)”

Entropia – Total (Review)

Entropia – Total (Review)

Entropia - TotalThis is the fourth album from polish post-black metallers Entropia.

Entropia are such a good band. I have thoroughly enjoyed their development through the years, (make sure you check out Vesper, Ufonaut, and Vacuum), and now on their latest release they demonstrate once again why they are just so damned good. Continue reading “Entropia – Total (Review)”

Downfall of Gaia – Silhouettes of Disgust (Review)

Downfall of Gaia - Silhouettes of DisgustDownfall of Gaia are a German post-black metal band and this is their sixth album.

Following on from 2016’s Atrophy and 2019’s Ethic of Radical Finitude, Sillhouettes of Disgust brings us a new 45 minutes of Downfall of Gaia’s idiosyncratic mix of black  metal, post-metal, sludge, blackgaze, and crust. Continue reading “Downfall of Gaia – Silhouettes of Disgust (Review)”

Enslaved – Heimdal (Review)

Enslaved – Heimdal (Review)

Enslaved - HeimdalEnslaved are a Norwegian progressive black metal band and this is their sixteenth album.

Following on from 2017’s E and 2020’s Utgard, Enslaved return once more with Heimdal, 48 minutes of progressive black metal. Or, probably more accurately, blackened progressive metal. Either way, Heimdall essentially continues the path that Utgard started upon, breaking new ground, while still keeping a firm eye on where the band came from. Theophonos – Nightmare Visions (Review)

Theophonos - Nightmare VisionsThis is the debut album from US one-man black metal band Theophonos.

Rising from the ashes of Serpent Column, the music of Theophonos is a nightmarish mixture of twisted black metal and abrasive hardcore fury. Continue reading “Theophonos – Nightmare Visions (Review)”

Raum Kingdom – Monarch (Review)

Raum Kingdom – Monarch (Review)

Raum Kingdom - MonarchRaum Kingdom are a sludge/post-metal band from Ireland and this is their second album.

I haven’t caught up with Raum Kingdom since their self-titled 2014 debut EP, so I thought it was overdue that I revisited their work. Monarch contains 43 minutes of sludgy post-metal, and reveals a band that are confident and capable in their chosen genre. Continue reading “Raum Kingdom – Monarch (Review)”

Polar – Everywhere, Everything (Review)

Polar – Everywhere, Everything (Review)

Polar - Everywhere, EverythingThis is the fifth album by Polar, a UK Hardcore band.

Having really enjoyed 2016’s No Cure No Saviour and 2019’s Nova, I’m pleased by Polar’s return.

Everywhere, Everything takes Polar’s existing sound – heavy hardcore with melodic and emotive highlights – and broadens it further into post-hardcore waters.  Of course, these are waters that Polar already wade in, but on this new collection of songs they venture deeper than ever before. As such, Continue reading “Polar – Everywhere, Everything (Review)”

Death Engine – Ocean (Review)

Death Engine – Ocean (Review)

Death Engine - OceanDeath Engine are a French post-hardcore band and this is their third album.

2015’s Mud and 2018’s Place Noir were both impressive, enjoyable, and individual records, displaying Death Engine’s multifaceted approach to heavy music. Now, across 36 minutes, Death Engine showcase a progression in their sound, one which threatens to bring about the end of days with its intensity and negative energies. Axioma – Sepsis (Review)

Axioma - SepsisAxioma are a post-black/sludge metal band from the US and this is their second album.

I first met Axioma back in 2016 on their debut EP Opia, which seems like an age ago. Well, since then they haven’t been idle, and their second album Sepsis came out earlier this year. Let’s dive in. Continue reading “Axioma – Sepsis (Review)”
