Afsky is a one man black metal band from Denmark and this is his debut album.
Although principally a solo act, the artist behind Afsky did bring in many session musicians for the creation of this album, (including Myrkur who brings not only her musical skills to the band, but also her always impressive vocals at the end of the last song). These help to flesh out the album fully, and add additional touches to the songs here and there. For example; Continue reading “Afsky – Sorg (Review)”
This is the second album from Australia’s Atra Vetosus, a melodic/atmospheric black metal band.
While I enjoyed 2013’s Voices from the Eternal Night, it seems that Atra Vetosus have truly come of age on Apricity. On this latest album Atra Vetosus have expanded their melodic black metal sound to include elements of the atmospheric, depressive, and post-black metal styles, and they have done this very well indeed. Distances are a post-metal/atmospheric sludge band from the US and this is their fourth album, (assuming you count 2016’s covers album Rip Offs).
Now here’s an interesting and involved release. I like something a bit different, and across the 65 minutes of material on this album Distance cover a lot of…ahem…distance.
Okay, I’ll get my coat…
Anyway…the Continue reading “Distances – Diableries (Review)”
Wendigo is a one man Canadian black metal project and this is his latest release.
This is a compilation/re-release of sorts, containing Wendigo’s debut demo from 2007 Ivresse, (remastered), as well as two bonus tracks. It’s harsh, it’s raw, but it’s also very enjoyable. Continue reading “Wendigo – Hymnes D’Outre-Tombe (Review)”
Three Eyes of the Void are a Ukrainian black metal band and this is their debut EP.
This is melodic black metal that pulses with energy and dark life. This EP is a relatively lengthy one as far as these things go, offering 28 minutes of material to the listener to get engrossed in. Continue reading “Three Eyes of the Void – The Moment of Storm (Review)”
Moonaadem is a one man black metal band from Lebanon and this is his debut album.
Here we have 32 minutes of atmospheric black metal with ambient touches. It’s an impressive debut. I can’t help but feel it’s probably destined for undeserved obscurity, sadly, but is definitely worth seeking out due to how good it is. Continue reading “Moonaadem – Moonaadem (Review)”
Thecodontion came out of nowhere and blew me away. Their demo Thecodontia is so strong and well-formed that you’d think they’d been doing this for years. I absolutely loved it. I simply had to find out more about this enigmatic and nasty band… Continue reading “Interview with Thecodontion”
Convocation are from Finland and play atmospheric death/doom metal. This is their debut album.
Featuring members of Desolate Shrine and Dark Buddha Rising, this is dark and gloomy death/doom that boasts four colossal tracks lasting 50 minutes in total. Continue reading “Convocation – Scars Across (Review)”
Progressive death metal band Rivers of Nihil have recently unleashed their third album Where Owls Know My Name, and what a monster it is. This is the sound of a creative force pushing the envelope of what death metal is capable of, exploring wider extreme metal waters with confidence and skill.
Guitarist Jonathan Topore answered some questions about the band and how their latest opus came to be… Continue reading “Interview with Rivers of Nihil”
