Fossilization – Leprous Daylight (Review)

Fossilization - Leprous DaylightFossilization are a Brazilian death metal band and this is their debut album.

Since first encountering Fossilization’s doomed death metal on their split with Ritual Necromancy, I have been looking forward to hearing more from the band. Now their debut Leprous Daylight is here; 37 minutes of foul death metal malevolence delivered to the unsuspecting masses. Continue reading “Fossilization – Leprous Daylight (Review)”

Morbid Evils – Supernaturals (Review)

Morbid Evils - SupernaturalsThis is the third album from Morbid Evils, a Finnish doom band.

Featuring a member of Rotten SoundSupernaturals contains four tracks, with a total duration of 40 minutes. The promo blurb mentions bands like Primitive Man, Jupiterian, 71TONMAN, Thou, Conan, Grief, and Warcrab, and this certainly sets the scene for the output of Morbid Evils quite well. Subterraen – Rotten Human Kingdom (Review)

When the promo blurb states that Rotten Human Kingdom is for fans of bands like Eremit, Jupiterian, Lurk, Eyehategod, Neurosis, 71TONMAN, Conan, and Primitive Man, you know you have to check it out. Jupiterian – Protosapien (Review)

Jupiterian - ProtosapienThis is the third album from Jupiterian, a Brazilian atmospheric sludge band.

2017’s Terraforming was one of my favourite releases of 2017, so it’s great to have the band back. Protosapien gives us 36 minutes of characterful doom/sludge metal that sees Jupiterian once more producing the grimy Continue reading “Jupiterian – Protosapien (Review)”

Lurk – Fringe (Review)

LurkThis is the third album from Finnish sludge/doom band Lurk.

Now here’s an album that’s all about texture and atmosphere. Fringe is a cross between bands such as Neurosis, Inter Arma, Sea of Bones, and labelmates Jupiterian, to name but a few. However, on Fringe the band display their own dark personality, and are firmly convincing in their own right. Continue reading “Lurk – Fringe (Review)”

Wonderbox Metal End of Year List – Best Metal of 2017

As is traditional, I also want to mention some releases by bands that could easily have made it onto the list, and should have by many rights, if only I could have somehow managed to fit them all in –

I urge you to check out all of the above releases, in addition to the ones in the actual list below. I could probably keep adding more bands you should give a listen to, but a line has to be drawn somewhere, I suppose.

So, without further ado, let’s get right down to it… Continue reading “Wonderbox Metal End of Year List – Best Metal of 2017”
