Green Lung are a doom rock band from the UK and this is their fourth album.
Following on from 2021’s The Harvest and 2023’s This Heathen Land, Necropolitan delivers 41 minutes of new material into our hot sweaty hands. Green Lung are on a continued upwards trajectory, and it doesn’t seem like anything can stop them.
If heavy rock imbued with emotion and infernal grandeur is your thing, then Necropolitan is for you. Green Lung have firmly established themselves as one of the best bands playing this sort of rock music active today, and Necropolitan does nothing to tarnish their reputation. This platter is a strong addition to the band’s sterling discography.
Once again the listener is assailed by a plethora of devilish riffs and catchy choruses. Green Lung write big and bold, with darkened colour and occult flair. Necropolitan has a Gothic flourish, lending the band’s songwriting a characterful flavour unique to the album.
Despite the professional production values, Necropolitan is raw and honest in its delivery and execution. The band have placed a premium on authenticity, and very capably kick out the jams with all of their characteristic personality.
The songs buzz around in your head like a hornet with a fancy hat; hard to ignore, and you probably shouldn’t anyway. Basically, Green Lung know how to pen a damn good tune, and Necropolitan is jam packed with the bloody things. More listens reveal more to enjoy, as the music overwhelms you with its infectious, moreish enthusiasm.
Necropolitan is a triumph of hook-heavy songcraft. Green Lung continue to be outstanding at what they do.
