Shock Narcotic – My Flesh Is Afraid but I Am Not (Review)

Shock Narcotic - My Flesh Is Afraid but I Am NotThis is the second album from Shock Narcotic, a grindcore band from the US.

Following on from 2019’s I Have Seen the Future and It Doesn’t Work, My Flesh Is Afraid but I Am Not contains 23 minutes of new material, (27 minutes with the bonus Meathook Seed cover). Featuring current and ex-members of bands such as The Dillinger Escape Plan and Child Bite, I’ve previously described Shock Narcotic roughly as a cross between Napalm Death and Pig Destroyer, and as the band now feature the drummer of Pig Destroyer in their ranks, the comparison is even more apt. Stomach – Low Demon (Review)

Stomach - Low DemonThis is the second album by Stomach, a doom/sludge band from the US.

Containing 43 minutes of thoroughly obnoxious doom sludge nastiness, Low Demon is a hideous mix of doom, sludge, drone, noise, grindcore, industrial, and punk. Stomach, brought to us by current/ex-members of Weekend Nachos, know their way around the style, as becomes quickly apparent across these five tracks. Continue reading “Stomach – Low Demon (Review)”

Dephosphorus – Planetoktonos (Review)

Dephosphorus - PlanetoktonosThis is the fifth album from Greek grindcore band Dephosphorus.

Dephosphorus play an extreme metal amalgamation of hardcore, grind, death metal, and black metal. It’s vicious, inventive, and rather tasty. Over 28 minutes Planetoktonos showcases what Dephosphorus are capable of in no uncertain terms. Continue reading “Dephosphorus – Planetoktonos (Review)”

Meth Leppard – Gatekeepers (Review)

Meth Leppard - GatekeepersMeth Leppard are an Australian grindcore band and this is their second album.

Gatekeepers is a 10-track, 15-minute kick in the face. Meth Leppard offer up an intense dose of brutality that should find fans of bands like Axis of Despair, Insect Warfare, Leng Tch’e, Maruta, Nasum, Pig Destroyer, and Rotten Sound quite happy. Outergods – Dethroned & Devoured (Review)

Outergods - Dethroned & DevouredThis is the second album from UK extreme metallers Outergods.

Outergods play a hybrid style that mixes black, death, and grind influences into a 45-minute record of brutal intensity. The band’s Bandcamp page recommends this for At The Gates, Anaal Nathrakh, Morbid Angel, Hate Eternal, and Strapping Young Lad, which should give you a good starting point for Dethroned & Devoured. Byonoisegenerator – Subnormal Dives (Review)

Byonoisegenerator - Subnormal DivesThis is the third album by Russian grindcore band Byonoisegenerator.

Jazzgrind, eh? Okay, I’ll bite. Subnormal Dives brings together, as advertised, the worlds of grindcore and jazz. It’s aggressive and dense, and Byonoisegenerator make a splash with the 23-minute free form savagery that is Subnormal Dives. Continue reading “Byonoisegenerator – Subnormal Dives (Review)”

Full of Hell – Broken Sword, Rotten Shield (Review)

Full of Hell - Broken Sword, Rotten ShieldThis is the latest EP from US grindcore band Full of Hell.

A new 15 minutes of Full of Hell‘s scathingly charismatic grindcore? Hell yes! Broken Sword, Rotten Shield is a compendium of different influences, all brought together with the band’s consummate skill into seven adventurous tracks. It’s harsh, but delightful.
