Hundred Suns – The Prestaliis (Review)

Hundred SunsHundred Suns are an emotive metal band from the US and this is their debut album.

Featuring an ex-member of Every Time I Die and the singer of Normal Jean, it was a complete no-brainer for me to listen to this as soon as I could once I was made aware of it. Thankfully,  I haven’t been disappointed with their very enjoyable brand of modern progressive/alternative metal. Continue reading “Hundred Suns – The Prestaliis (Review)”

Extinguish the Sun – Antihero (Review)

Extinguish the SunExtinguish the Sun are an alternative metal band from the US and this is their debut album.

Extinguish the Sun describe their music with reference to bands such as Mastodon, Clutch, Corrosion of Conformity, and Every Time I Die, and I have to say that sets the scene for their music pretty well. Continue reading “Extinguish the Sun – Antihero (Review)”

Tornado Kid – Hateful 10 (Review)

Tornado KidTornado Kid are a Russian metal band and this is their debut album.

Holy shitbastards this is good!

This is Southern-styled metal, with a bit of hard rock thrown in for good measure, as well as some hardcore influences. Barrabus – Barrabus (Review)

BarrabusThis is the debut album from UK electro rockers Barrabus.

It’s a somewhat eclectic mix that actually comes together in a highly cohesive manner across the album. Continue reading “Barrabus – Barrabus (Review)”

Here’s a band we’ve met before, and they impressed when we did. The Death of Rhythm and Blues stood out with its aggressive, angular hardcore. Continue reading “American Standards – Anti-Melody (Review)”

Gnarwolf – II (Review)

GnarwolfGnarwolf are a US hardcore band and this is their latest EP.

You’ve gotta like this kind of thing; less than 14 minutes of angular, chaotic hardcore. The band play it well and make one Hell of a noise. What’s not to like? Continue reading “Gnarwolf – II (Review)”

Ghastly Sound – Ghastly Sound (Review)

Ghastly SoundGhastly Sound are a metal/hardcore band from the US and this is their debut EP.

As much as I luuurrrvvvveeee the distortion of a good guitar, I do always like it when I come across a band that eschews this in favour of the primal heaviness of just drums and bass. Continue reading “Ghastly Sound – Ghastly Sound (Review)”

Ion DissonanceIon Dissonance are a Canadian hardcore/mathcore band. This is their fifth album.

As one of the leading lights in the hardcore/mathcore/whatever scene, Ion Dissonance’s new album certainly has a lot of expectations attached to it. Of course, as you would expect, the band Continue reading “Ion Dissonance – Cast the First Stone (Review)”
