Bait – Revelation of the Pure (Review)
Bait are a German blackened hardcore band and this is their debut album.
Featuring a member of Der Weg Einer Freiheit, Bait play post-black metal with hardcore bite. Offering 45 minutes of aggressive darkness, Revelation of the Pure is a worthy listen. Continue reading “Bait – Revelation of the Pure (Review)”
Calligram – The Eye Is the First Circle (Review)
Calligram are a UK-based international blackened metal band and this is their latest album.
Calligram adopt a modern approach to black metal on The Eye Is the First Circle, mixing it with elements of hardcore to produce a set of dark songs that pierce the listener deeply and won’t let go. Continue reading “Calligram – The Eye Is the First Circle (Review)”
Hexis/Zatokrev/Marw – Rebellion, Manchester – 18/08/19 (Live Review)
Hexis and Zatokrev are both bands I’ve liked for many years, but filed in the “bands I’ll probably never get to see live” category. I do so enjoy being wrong. On a more negative note, tonight is one of the most sparsely attended gigs I’ve ever been to, which is a huge shame for the bands. Friendship – Undercurrent (Review)
Friendship are from Japan and play blackened grindcore/hardcore. This is their second album.
2017’s Hatred was an intoxicating blend of grindcore, sludge, and blackened hardcore powerviolence. It was a hideously effective record, so I’m quite pleased that we now have Undercurrent to sate our desire for fresh carnage. Continue reading “Friendship – Undercurrent (Review)”
Glassing – Spotted Horse (Review)
Glassing are a blackened hardcore band from the US and this is their second album.
I do so like these hybrid styles that are almost impossible to lump into a single genre, or to easily categorise. This particular release mixes hardcore, black metal, and post-metal into something quite personable, and it’s a very effective and enjoyable listen because of this. Continue reading “Glassing – Spotted Horse (Review)”
Tripsitter – The Other Side of Sadness (Review)
This is the debut album from Tripsitter, a post-hardcore band from Austria.
The promo blurb describes this as a mix of black metal, shoegaze, and hardcore, and this description sets the scene nicely for the 44 minutes of music you’ll find on The Other Side of Sadness. Continue reading “Tripsitter – The Other Side of Sadness (Review)”
Funeral Chic – Superstition (Review)
This is the second album from US blackened hardcore band Funeral Chic.
Fourteen tracks of violent, foul, ugly blackened hardcore? Yes please! How could I resist? Continue reading “Funeral Chic – Superstition (Review)”
Attan – End of (Review)
Attan are from Norway and play Hardcore/Post-Hardcore. This is their debut album.
To say that there has been a weight of expectation riding on this is an understatement, for me at least. Why? Because I absolutely love Attan’s 2015 debut EP From Nothing. After then seeing the band live at the following year’s Damnation Festival, and even Continue reading “Attan – End of (Review)”
Wolf King – Loyal to the Soil (Review)
Wolf King are a blackened hardcore band from the US and this is their debut album.
Ahh, this is precisely the kind of adrenaline shot you need when…well, whenever really. With the dark, invigorating energy that comes off this thing in waves you could power one of the cities of Hell, I’m sure. Continue reading “Wolf King – Loyal to the Soil (Review)”
