Gutter Instinct – Heirs of Sisyphus (Review)

Gutter InstinctThis is the second album from Gutter Instinct, a Swedish death metal band.

Ahh, I love the sound of Swedish death metal crushing its enemies in the morning, (what’s left of it at least – see later). This is especially the case when the style has a malignant blackened sheen to it, as it does with Gutter Instinct’s malevolent output. Having said that, with every release Gutter Instinct change and refine their sound, and this is true of this latest release, as we’ll see. Incorporea – To Exorcize the Sun (Review)

IncorporeaIncorporea are a Spanish black metal band and this is their debut EP.

Here we have a darkly atmospheric 12 minutes of music. The two songs on this EP are very enjoyable examples of what Incorporea are capable of. I really have struggled to keep this list down to manageable levels this time, and removed a few potential entries simply to keep the numbers down, (I’m not happy about this). So anyway, in no particular order, I give you my top picks for May 2018… Continue reading “Monthly Overview – the Best of May 2018”

Asgrauw – Gronspech (Review)

AsgrauwAsgrauw are a black metal band from the Netherlands and this is their third album.

Carrying a torch for old-school Scandinavian second wave black metal through a forest at night, Asgrauw have delivered an album that really does make me nostalgic for the 90s. The music on Gronspech speaks to me in a very specific, occult-tinged way that only this kind of music can. Continue reading “Asgrauw – Gronspech (Review)”
