Fange – Purulences (Review)

Fange - PurulencesThis is the eighth album from French industrial metal band Fange.

I haven’t caught up with Fange since 2014’s Poisse and 2017’s Pourrissoir, and the band have been very productive since then. They have released a slew of albums and developed their sound in different directions, all branching out from a malevolent heart. So what does Purulences offer us in 2025? Déhà – Nethermost & Absolute Comfort (Review)

Déhà - Nethermost & Absolute ComfortDéhà is a Belgian solo artist who plays in a vast multitude of bands, across a variety of styles. In his solo work alone he spans a wide range of genres. This album is his 38th, (I think).

Déhà is a highly prolific artist with a withering work ethic who manages – against the odds – to consistently maintain some of the highest quality levels across a multitude of genres and styles. As a very, very small slice of examples, check out the marvellous Decadance from 2022, as well as bands such as Acathexis, C.O.A.G., Cult of Erinyes, Silver Knife, Slow, and We All Die (Laughing). You won’t regret any of these. Continue reading “Déhà – Nethermost & Absolute Comfort (Review)”

Délirant – Thoughteater (Review)

Délirant - ThoughteaterThis is the second album from Spanish black metal solo act Délirant.

Thoughteater contains 38 minutes of swirling dissonance, esoteric atmosphere, and dark aggression. With a promo blurb that references bands such as Blut Aus Nord, Akhlys, Deathspell Omega, Abigor, and Misþyrming, are you ready for the nightmare experience that the artist behind Délirant offers up? Continue reading “Délirant – Thoughteater (Review)”

Genital Shame/Lust Hag – Split (Review)

Genital Shame Lust Hag - SplitThis is a split between two US black metal solo acts.

We start off with Genital Shame; two tracks in eight minutes. This is not a band I know. Lust Hag drew me to this split in the first place, of course, but having now heard these two songs, I am not disappointed in what the artist behind Genital Shame has to offer. Shrine of Denial – I, Moloch (Review)

Shrine of Denial - I, MolochThis is the debut album from Turkish blackened death metal band Shrine of Denial.

On I, Moloch Shrine of Denial offer up 31 minutes of blackened death metal that delivers a mix of blunt force and arcane might. It’s a quality album that doesn’t outstay its welcome. Continue reading “Shrine of Denial – I, Moloch (Review)”

Necrambulant – Upheaval of Malignant Necrambulance (Review)

Necrambulant - Upheaval of Malignant NecrambulanceThis is the second album from US death metal band Necrambulant.

Well, it’s been twelve years since Infernal Infectious Necro-Ambulatory Pandemic saw the light of day, so I thought I’d better check out Upheaval of Malignant Necrambulance to see what Necrambulant have been up to since then. Apparently they split up in 2014, only to reform in 2022 with a new lineup, (including vocals now from the bands ex-drummer). So there we are then. Dawn of Ouroboros – Bioluminescence (Review)

Dawn of Ouroboros - BioluminescenceThis is the third album from Dawn of Ouroboros, a progressive black/death metal band from the US.

Both 2020’s The Art of Morphology and 2023’s Velvet Incandescence were solid albums from Dawn of Ouroboros, so when I heard about Bioluminescence, it became an anticipated album for 2025. Across 43 minutes Dawn of Ouroboros once again deliver an expressive and charismatic album of hybridised metal styles. Continue reading “Dawn of Ouroboros – Bioluminescence (Review)”

Crown Magnetar – Punishment (Review)

Crown Magnetar - PunishmentThis is the latest EP from US deathcore band Crown Magnetar.

Containing 13 minutes of material, Crown Magnetar play deathcore on the more brutal end of the spectrum. Punishment is aptly named, dishing out four succinct beatings that don’t hold back. Continue reading “Crown Magnetar – Punishment (Review)”
