Monolithe – Kosmodrom (Review)

Monolithe - KosmodromThis is the ninth album from French doom band Monolithe.

Monolithe are a band that I have really enjoyed over the years, and you can pick up pretty much anything they have released and be transported into a world of doom delights. (this, this, this, this, this, this or this, for example). Kosmodrom is as epic and ambitious as anything the band have previously attempted, and the album is a 67-minute journey into conceptual spacefaring territories.

Sinister Downfall – The Last Witness (Review)

Sinister Downfall – The Last Witness

This is the third album from Sinister Downfall, a one-man funeral doom band from Germany.

Following on from 2020’s A Dark Shining Light, The Last Witness delivers a 60-minute slab of gloomy darkness. Sinister Downfall know how to craft a funeral doom album of grief and hopelessness. Continue reading “Sinister Downfall – The Last Witness (Review)”

Dream Unending – Song of Salvation (Review)

Dream Unending - Song of SalvationThis is the second album from Canadian/US death/doom metallers Dream Unending.

Song of Salvation contains 44 minutes of atmospheric death/doom metal. The band features two members, who are in bands such as Outer Heaven, Sumerlands, Tomb Mold, and Vestal Claret, and between them they create an immersive tapestry of slow, mood-focused doom that’s as compelling and well-realised as it is enjoyable. Forlesen – Black Terrain (Review)

Forlesen - Black TerrainThis is the second album from US doom band Forlesen.

2020’s Hierophan Violent was a strikingly individual record, one which, for some reason, I never expected a successor to. Well, I’m happy to be wrong; Black Terrain is flush with 59 minutes of new material from this exceptional act. It’s almost double the length of its predecessor, so do Forlesen make good use of this additional running time? Continue reading “Forlesen – Black Terrain (Review)”

Abyssic – Brought Forth in Iniquity (Review)

Abyssic - Brought Forth in IniquityThis is the third album from Norwegian symphonic death/doom band Abyssic.

Oh my, here’s one I’ve definitely been looking forward to. 2015’s A Winter’s Tale and High the Memory were both stunning records that have only grown in my estimation over time. Towering monoliths of symphonic doom and misery, those records have definitely made me hungry for Brought Forth in Iniquity. Continue reading “Abyssic – Brought Forth in Iniquity (Review)”

Worm – Bluenothing (Review)

Worm - BluenothingThis is the latest EP from Worm, a blackened death/doom band from the US.

Worm return! After the monstrous slab of blackened doom malevolence that was 2021’s Foreverglade, Worm are back with 27 minutes of foul new material. Continue reading “Worm – Bluenothing (Review)”
