Inert – Vermin (Review)

Inert - VerminThis is the debut album from Inert, an international, (Swedish/Spanish), death metal band.

Following on from the enjoyable Obliteration of the Self, with its homage to classic old-school Swedish death metal, Inert return with Vermin as a changed beast; two new band members, and an expanded set of influences. Continue reading “Inert – Vermin (Review)”

Gods Forsaken – Smells of Death (Review)

Gods Forsaken - Smells of DeathGods Forsaken are a death metal supergroup and this is their second album.

This is the follow up to the band’s 2017 debut album In a Pitch Black Grave, and it shows that Gods Forsaken have lost none of their talent for butchery. Continue reading “Gods Forsaken – Smells of Death (Review)”

Hekata – Ruin (Review)

hekata - ruinHekata are a Russian death metal band and this is their debut album.

Hekata play a virulent mix of death metal, black metal, hardcore, crust, and grind. It’s quite the mix, and essentially results in songs that merge these influences into blackened slabs of Scandinavian-influenced deathcrustcore. Or something. You get the idea, I’m sure. Eteritus – Order of Death (Review)

Eteritus - Order of DeathThis is the second album from Polish deathmetallers Eteritus.

Sucker for Scandinavian-styled death metal that I am, I really enjoyed 2016’s Following the Ancient Path, so when I saw this new slab of filth appear I knew I had to give it a listen. Continue reading “Eteritus – Order of Death (Review)”

Heads for the Dead – Serpent’s Curse (Review)

Heads for the DeadHeads for the Dead are an international death metal band and this is their debut album.

Here we have another death metal supergroup of sorts from the always reliable Transcending Obscurity Records. Featuring the vocalist of the very tasty Revel in Flesh and the multi-talented Jonny Pettersson, (Ursinne, Ashcloud, Henry Kane, Just Before Dawn, Wombbath, and others), Serpent’s Curse gives us 36 minutes of horror-themed old-school death metal. Continue reading “Heads for the Dead – Serpent’s Curse (Review)”

Creeping Flesh – In Times of War (Review)

Creeping FleshCreeping Flesh are a Swedish death metal band and this is a compilation album of their previous work.

This collection contains 2014’s Unravelled by War, 2015’s Rising Terror, and 2016’s Scorched. I don’t normally review compilation releases like this, especially if I’ve covered some of the music previously, but I wanted to highlight In Times of War as I like Creeping Flesh a lot.

This is only Continue reading “Creeping Flesh – In Times of War (Review)”

Cast the Stone – Empyrean Atrophy (Review)

Cast the StoneCast the Stone are a death metal band from the US and this is their latest EP.

An EP this may be, but we still get a meaty 27 minutes of material to tear into. Featuring current and ex-members of bands such as Scour, Cattle Decapitation, and Misery Index, (among others), this release draws on the individual band members’ experience, but easily stands as its own distinct entity. Continue reading “Cast the Stone – Empyrean Atrophy (Review)”

Crawl – Rituals (Review)

CrawlThis is the debut album from Swedish death metallers Crawl.

Four things made me quite excited to hear this album, even before I really knew too much about it. The first is that it’s coming out on the always reliable Transcending Obscurity Records, (who have been especially Continue reading “Crawl – Rituals (Review)”

Wombripper – From the Depths of Flesh (Review)

WombripperWombripper are a Russian death metal band and this is their debut album.

After really enjoying the band’s debut EP – Infected Tomb – I was only thinking recently that I wanted to hear some more from Wombripper, and now, as if out of nowhere, appears the band’s debut album. BOOM! Continue reading “Wombripper – From the Depths of Flesh (Review)”
