The Night Flight Orchestra – Sometimes the World Ain’t Enough (Review)

The Night Flight OrchestraThe Night Flight Orchestra are a Swedish hard rock band and this is their fourth album.

The Night Flight Orchestra are shockingly good. I mean really, really good. By all rights I shouldn’t like this kind of thing, as it’s not the sort of music I tend to listen to very often, if at all, but something about the execution of this band’s tunes really grabs me hard. Orange Goblin – The Wolf Bites Back (Review)

Orange GoblinThis is the ninth album from UK stoner metal band Orange Goblin.

It was 2014 when we saw the release of the first-rate Back from the Abyss. It seems like it’s been a long time since then, (and it has, I suppose), but now I’m very pleased to say that Orange Goblin are back with one of their strongest and most diverse albums to date. Wooden Shjips – V. (Review)

Wooden ShjipsWooden Shjips are a US psychedelic rock band and this is their fifth album.

This album contains 42 minutes of warm, amiable, fuzzy rock. This is a band that promote peace and positivity, and this comes off this retro-soaked album in waves. Continue reading “Wooden Shjips – V. (Review)”

Graveyard – Peace (Review)

GraveyardGraveyard are a hard rock band from Sweden and this is their fifth album.

Even though this is the band’s fifth album, this is my first encounter with them. Featuring a very enjoyable classic version of hard rock, this is retro-styled and blues-infected, resulting in a soulful album of tunes and rocking anthems. The band’s multifaceted and rich songwriting shines strongly, and Peace provides a very satisfying and gratifying listen. Continue reading “Graveyard – Peace (Review)”

New Waters – Experience (Review)

New WatersThis is the second album from Finnish hardcore band New Waters.

Experience is suitably titled, leading the listener on an…ahem…experience, lasting 36 minutes. As you travel through the band’s internally-forged landscapes, you get to…ahem…experience their charismatic and aggressive form of hardcore. It’s definitely an…ahem…experience. Continue reading “New Waters – Experience (Review)”

Witch Mountain – Witch Mountain (Review)

Witch MountainWitch Mountain are a US doom metal band and this is their fifth album.

Plying traditional doom metal that focuses on songs, soaring vocals, heartfelt melodies, and gripping riffs, Witch Mountain’s strikingly-covered fifth album features 35 minutes of quality doom metal to get your teeth into. Continue reading “Witch Mountain – Witch Mountain (Review)”

Interview with Blackwater Holylight

Blackwater Holylight Header

Blackwater Holylight’s self titled debut album is a gorgeous mix of heartfelt vocals, hard rock and psychedelia, and dashes of old-school doom. A rich and textured collection of highly emotive songs, the album is warm and ethereal, easily impressing with its easy atmosphere and diverse songwriting. It’s definitely a keeper.

I caught up with bassist/vocalist Allison (Sunny) and asked a few questions… Continue reading “Interview with Blackwater Holylight”

Brond – Graveyard Campfire (Review)

BrondBrond are a Bulgarian rock band and this is their debut album.

Brond’s music mixes riff-focused modern rock and post-hardcore/rock, with progressive, stoner, and noise/math rock tendencies. Wow. Now there’s a description. Delivering eight tracks across almost 44 minutes of music, Graveyard Campfire is a well-realised and enjoyable release, despite my mangling together of various subgenres in an attempt to loosely categorise it.
