Coltsblood – Obscured into Nebulous Dusk (Review)

Coltsblood - Obscured into Nebulous DuskColtsblood are a doom band from the UK and this is their third album.

Following on from 2019’s split with Un, (which I thoroughly enjoyed), it’s great to have a new album from Coltsblood to get to grips with. It’s four songs, 42 minutes of hideous blackened doom nastiness. Continue reading “Coltsblood – Obscured into Nebulous Dusk (Review)”

AAWKS – On Through the Sky Maze (Review)

AAWKS - On Through the Sky MazeAAWKS are a Canadian doom band and this is their second album.

Up until now my first and only encounter with AAWKS was on their enjoyable split with Aiwass from 2023. I almost missed this one, until a friend recommended it, and here we are. On Through the Sky Maze delivers 48 minutes of occult psychedelic doom metal for us to devour, and it tastes damn good. Continue reading “AAWKS – On Through the Sky Maze (Review)”

Kal-EL – Astral Voyager Vol. 1 (Review)

Kal-EL - Astral Voyager Vol. 1This is the sixth album from Norwegian doom/stoner metal band Kal-El.

I thoroughly enjoyed 2021’s Dark Majesty, so I’m chuffed that there’s a new Kal-El album. More than just this one too, apparently. The first part of an ambitious double album, Astral Voyager Vol. 1 contains 42 minutes of new material from Kal-El. Let’s get stuck right in. Continue reading “Kal-EL – Astral Voyager Vol. 1 (Review)”

Conan – Violence Dimension (Review)

Conan - Violence DimensionThis is the sixth album from UK doom metallers Conan.

I haven’t managed to review a Conan album since 2016’s Revengeance, so rectifying this is long overdue. Since Revengeance Conan have changed lineup, picking up a drummer from Dread Sovereign and a bassist who used to be in the mighty Fudge Tunnel. Let’s get to it then. Tribunal – In Penitence and Ruin (Review)

Tribunal - In Penitence and RuinTribunal are a Gothic doom metal band from Canada and this is their second album.

Tribunal’s debut record The Weight of Remembrance was a notable release from 2023, so a new album from the band carries the freshly acquired weight of expectation. Fear not though, as across 48 minutes In Penitence and Ruin does not disappoint. Continue reading “Tribunal – In Penitence and Ruin (Review)”

Rothadás – Töviskert… a Kísértés Örök Érzete… Lidércharang (Review)

Rothadás - Töviskert... a Kísértés Örök Érzete... LidércharangRothadás are a death/doom band from Hungary and this is their second album.

Töviskert… a Kísértés Örök Érzete… Lidércharang almost passed me by, but I heard enough underground buzz about it that I had to check it out. I’m glad I did, as Rothadás have produced a monstrous slab of doom-inflused death metal. Continue reading “Rothadás – Töviskert… a Kísértés Örök Érzete… Lidércharang (Review)”

Soliloquium – Famine (Review)

Soliloquium - FamineThis is the fifth album from Swedish death/doom band Soliloquium.

It’s always a pleasure to receive a new Soliloquium album. 2020’s Things We Leave Behind and 2022’s Soulsearching both hit harder than the melodic death/doom style typically does for me. Will the 57-minute, (with bonus track), Famine continue this high quality trend? Continue reading “Soliloquium – Famine (Review)”

Ritual Ascension – Profanation of the Adamic Covenant (Review)

Ritual Ascension - Profanation of the Adamic CovenantThis is the debut album from US death/doom metallers Ritual Ascension.

Profanation of the Adamic Covenant contains five tracks that spread out over 48 minutes like a virulent plague. Brought to us by members of Aberration, Feral Light, Suffering Hour, and Void Rot, Ritual Ascension deliver unto us unworthy listeners a monstrously abyssal amalgamation of death and doom metal. Continue reading “Ritual Ascension – Profanation of the Adamic Covenant (Review)”
