Now this was a show I knew I couldn’t miss out on. All three bands are great, and any one of them I’d have come to see. All three together? Unmissable. Continue reading “Winterfylleth/Wormwitch/Bizarrekult – Rebellion, Manchester – 10/11/24 (Live Review)”

From the Vastland – Tenebrous Shadow (Review)
From the Vastland are an Iranian/Norwegian black metal band and this is their eighth album.
I enjoy catching up with From the Vastland’s brand of black metal. I’ve liked all of their albums I’ve heard so far, (2016’s Chamrosh, 2018’s Daevayasna, and 2020’s The Haft Khan, (I managed to miss their 2022 record Taurvi, which I’ve only just found out even existed), so I didn’t expect Tenebrous Shadow to break this trend. 1349 – The Wolf and the King (Review)
This is the eighth album from Norwegian black metallers 1349.
1349 boast current/ex-members of Gorgoroth, Keep of Kalessin, Mortem, and Satyricon in their ranks, and they provide us with 39 minutes of Norwegian black metal in the form of The Wolf and the King. Continue reading “1349 – The Wolf and the King (Review)”
Avmakt – Satanic Inversion Of… (Review)
This is the debut album from Norwegian black metallers Avmakt.
Satanic Inversion Of… contains 46 minutes of old-school second wave 90s black metal worship. Avmakt’s music uses the Darkthrone template extensively, yet somehow manages to avoid coming off as a cheap knockoff. How? Basically, it’s just a damn good album. Continue reading “Avmakt – Satanic Inversion Of… (Review)”
Aethyrick – Death Is Absent (Review)
This is the fifth album from Finnish black metallers Aethyrick.
I always have time for Aethyrick’s brand of black metal, so it’s great to have some new material from them in the form of the 43-minute Death Is Absent. If you’re unfamiliar with the band, then as well as this new album it’s also worth checking out 2018’s Praxis, 2020’s Gnosis, 2021’s Apotheosis, and 2022’s Pilgrimage. Aethyrick may have only been around since 2016, but they’re quite prolific. Continue reading “Aethyrick – Death Is Absent (Review)”
Ellende – Todbringerin (Review)
This is the fifth album from Ellende, a solo black metal band from Austria.
I’ve heard of Ellende for a while, but this is my first encounter with the band. I have to say, I wish I’d paid more attention earlier, as this is sterling stuff. Todbringerin contains 50 minutes of expressive black metal. Continue reading “Ellende – Todbringerin (Review)”
Wraithfyre – Of Fell Peaks and Haunted Chasms (Review)
This is the debut album from Wraithfyre, a UK solo black metal band.
On Of Fell Peaks and Haunted Chasms the artist behind Wraithfyre delivers 37 minutes of old-school symphonic black metal. It’s good stuff, and has clearly been created by somebody that knows the style well. Continue reading “Wraithfyre – Of Fell Peaks and Haunted Chasms (Review)”
Uprising – III (Review)
This is the third album from German solo black metal band Uprising.
III is brought to us by a founder of Waldgeflüster, with drums provided by the artist behind Panopticon. Uprising’s music is rooted in the classic black metal style, but not limited to it, and carries with it a contemporary message. Continue reading “Uprising – III (Review)”
Seth – La France des Maudits (Review)
This is the seventh album from French black metallers Seth.
La France des Maudits offers up 46 minutes of expressive black metal. Seth are one of those bands that have been around for some time now and despite being aware of them since their very early days I’ve never actually heard them before. This new album seemed like the perfect time to rectify this. Continue reading “Seth – La France des Maudits (Review)”
Horned Almighty – Contagion Zero (Review)
Horned Almighty are a black metal band from Denmark and this is their seventh album.
It has been a long ten years since I last caught up with Horned Almighty, (which is somewhat of a shocking realisation to be honest), so catching up with them is long overdue. Contagion Zero offers up 36 minutes of infectious black metal. Continue reading “Horned Almighty – Contagion Zero (Review)”
