Pyrrhon – What Passes for Survival (Review)

PyrrhonThis is the third album from Pyrrhon, an extreme metal band from the US.

Pyrrhon are not your standard band. I first encountered them on their 2014 album The Mother of Virtues, and even then they were a distinctly atypical and genre-breaking proposition. Continue reading “Pyrrhon – What Passes for Survival (Review)”

Fleshbore – Demo 2017 (Review)

FleshboreFleshbore are a US death metal band and this is their debut demo release.

One of the things I really like about demo releases in this day and age is that they no longer have to sound like they’ve been recorded by a guy screaming into a bucket in a garage somewhere. Hail technological progress! Which is a roundabout way of saying Continue reading “Fleshbore – Demo 2017 (Review)”

Paradise Lost – Medusa (Review)

Paradise LostThis is the 15th album from UK metal band Paradise Lost.

Ligæder – Fordøjet Levende (Review)

LigæderLigæder are a Danish death metal band and this is their debut EP.

Samot – Across the Abyss (Review)

SamotSamot are a blackened death metal band from Chile and this is their debut EP.

Spheredemonis – The Revelation of the Pyramids (Review)

SpheredemonisSphere are a death metal band from Russia and this is their debut album.

Here we have a band that are not afraid to throw a few different influences into the pot, resulting in an album that covers many bases in its relatively short playing time. Continue reading “Spheredemonis – The Revelation of the Pyramids (Review)”

Obriy – Altar of Utopia (Review)

ObriyObriy are a Ukrainian death metal band and this is their debut release.

Old-school and full of huge grooves, this thunders out of the speakers with enviable presence and chunky, heavy riffs. Continue reading “Obriy – Altar of Utopia (Review)”

Inanimate Existence – Underneath a Melting Sky (Review)

Inanimate ExistenceInanimate Existence are a US progressive, technical, atmospheric death metal band and this is their fourth album.

Inanimate Existence return! I like this band a lot. 2014’s A Never-Ending Cycle of Atonement and then last year’s Calling from a Dream demonstrated a band that are not only willing to experiment and push their sound, but one that continued to develop and progress over time too.

Beneath – Ephemeris (Review)

BeneathBeneath are an Icelandic death metal band and this is their third album.

2014’s The Barren Throne was an album that stuck out with its brutal and precise delivery, yet also demonstrated the band’s use of subtle melody and nuanced riffing on occasion. Continue reading “Beneath – Ephemeris (Review)”
