Blissful Stream – Dead Religious (Review)

Blissful StreamBlissful Stream is a Swedish one man doom metal band and this is his latest EP.

I really like Blissful Stream. Both 2016’s Ascending Demons and 2017’s Devil’s Night to All Souls, (a split with Lightsabres), were very enjoyable and showcased the artist’s lo-fi and charismatic take on doom metal/rock. Now it’s 2018, and time for a new EP, which we have in the form of the 14 minutes of material that makes up Dead Religious. Continue reading “Blissful Stream – Dead Religious (Review)”

Tons – Filthy Flowers of Doom (Review)

TonsTons are an Italian doom/sludge metal band and this is their second album.

Characterised by huge riffs and acidic vocals, Filthy Flowers of Doom is aptly named in many ways, delivering 38 minutes of sludgy doom. Continue reading “Tons – Filthy Flowers of Doom (Review)”

Glorior Belli – The Apostates (Review)

Glorior BelliThis is the seventh album from Glorior Belli, a French black metal band, (essentially a one man band with hired help).

It’s always great to hear something new from this charismatic and individual band, and here we have 47 minutes of new material.

If you’re not familiar with Glorior Belli’s work, (check out Gators Rumble, Chaos Unfurls and Sundown (the Flock That Welcomes)), this is a band that Continue reading “Glorior Belli – The Apostates (Review)”

Cave Bastard – The Bleak Shall Devour the Earth (Review)

Cave BastardCave Bastard are from the US and are a death metal band. This is their debut album.

With a name like Cave Bastard and an album cover and logo like this, how could I not want to check this out? I’m pleased to say that this initial promise has been fulfilled, and what we have here is 31 minutes of sonic violence and intensity. Eagle Twin – The Thundering Heard (Songs of Hoof and Horn) (Review)

Eagle TwinThis is the third album from US stoner/sludge/doom band Eagle Twin.

This is blues-inflected doom, taking a dirty stoner influence and spreading it far and wide with a low and heavy sludgy doom coating. Continue reading “Eagle Twin – The Thundering Heard (Songs of Hoof and Horn) (Review)”

Nadir – The Sixth Extinction (Review)

NadirNadir are a sludge/death metal band from Hungary and this is their sixth album.

The Sixth Extinction features 33 minutes of sludgy death metal. Think of a cross between Crowbar and Bolt Thrower and you’ll not be too far off from where Nadir operate. There’s also a touch of Obituary, Coffins, Incantation, and High on Fire here and there. Continue reading “Nadir – The Sixth Extinction (Review)”
