Forgotten Tomb – Nihilistic Estrangement (Review)

Forgotten Tomb - Nihilistic EstrangementThis is the tenth album from Forgotten Tomb, an Italian black/doom/sludge metal band.

2015’s Hurt Yourself and the Ones You Love and 2017’s We Owe You Nothing are both favourites of mine, so it’s great to have some new work from Forgotten Tomb, especially something as well-wrought as Nihilistic Estrangement. Continue reading “Forgotten Tomb – Nihilistic Estrangement (Review)”

Shatter Brain – Pitchfork Justice (Review)

Shatter Brain - Pitchfork JusticeThis is the debut album from Shatter Brain, an Australian thrash metal band.

Featuring members of Voros and Alkira, Pitchfork Justice contains 40 minutes of bellicose metal. Blending thrash, hardcore, and sludge metal into a strong-tasting and satisfying concoction, this is a very impressive debut album. Since discovering WVRM in 2017 with Can You Hear the Wind Howl, I’ve real enjoyed their work. Which is why I knew I had to check out Colony Collapse. Spread across 27 minutes of violent power channelled into 14 furious grindcore songs, this album is a force to be reckoned with. Continue reading “WVRM – Colony Collapse (Review)”

Escape Is Not Freedom – Surrounded by the Great Nothing (Review)

Escape Is Not Freedom - Surrounded by the Great NothingEscape Is Not Freedom are an alternative/sludge metal band, and this is their second album.

Escape Is Not Freedom are no strangers to this site, (here and here), and it’s great to hear some new material from them. Combining elements of metal, sludge, rock, and noise, Escape Is Not Freedom remind me of a cross between Fudge Tunnel, Helmet, Nirvana, Skyscraper, and others.
