Mangata Festival was not at all on my radar, until I found out that Ante-Inferno, Abduction, and Devastator were playing it, (originally The Infernal Sea too). Throw in Wolvencrown, who I’ve never seen before, and it certainly peaked my interest. Continue reading “Mangata Festival – Nottingham, 12/07/25 (Live Review)”

Dephosphorus – Planetoktonos (Review)
This is the fifth album from Greek grindcore band Dephosphorus.
Dephosphorus play an extreme metal amalgamation of hardcore, grind, death metal, and black metal. It’s vicious, inventive, and rather tasty. Over 28 minutes Planetoktonos showcases what Dephosphorus are capable of in no uncertain terms. Continue reading “Dephosphorus – Planetoktonos (Review)”
Impureza – Alcázares (Review)
This is the third album from French death metal band Impureza.
Following on from 2017’s La Caída de Tonatiuh, (which seems like it came out an age ago), Impureza have now returned with the 49-minute Alcázares. If you’re interested in death metal with flamenco elements, and enjoy bands like Behemoth, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Hate Eternal, and Nile, then this is for you. Continue reading “Impureza – Alcázares (Review)”
Outergods – Dethroned & Devoured (Review)
This is the second album from UK extreme metallers Outergods.
Outergods play a hybrid style that mixes black, death, and grind influences into a 45-minute record of brutal intensity. The band’s Bandcamp page recommends this for At The Gates, Anaal Nathrakh, Morbid Angel, Hate Eternal, and Strapping Young Lad, which should give you a good starting point for Dethroned & Devoured. Continue reading “Outergods – Dethroned & Devoured (Review)”
Byonoisegenerator – Subnormal Dives (Review)
This is the third album by Russian grindcore band Byonoisegenerator.
Jazzgrind, eh? Okay, I’ll bite. Subnormal Dives brings together, as advertised, the worlds of grindcore and jazz. It’s aggressive and dense, and Byonoisegenerator make a splash with the 23-minute free form savagery that is Subnormal Dives. Continue reading “Byonoisegenerator – Subnormal Dives (Review)”
Full of Hell – Broken Sword, Rotten Shield (Review)
This is the latest EP from US grindcore band Full of Hell.
A new 15 minutes of Full of Hell‘s scathingly charismatic grindcore? Hell yes! Broken Sword, Rotten Shield is a compendium of different influences, all brought together with the band’s consummate skill into seven adventurous tracks. It’s harsh, but delightful. Continue reading “Full of Hell – Broken Sword, Rotten Shield (Review)”
Smiqra – Rɡyaɡ̇dźé! (Review)
This is the debut album by solo Chinese avant-garde extreme metal act Smiqra.
Brought to us by the artist behind the Ὁπλίτης (Hoplites), Smiqra take the more avant-garde aspects of the last Ὁπλίτης release Παραμαινομένη and runs with them. Rgyaɡ̇dźé! is a 42-minute explosion of avant-garde metal that’s dizzying. Continue reading “Smiqra – Rɡyaɡ̇dźé! (Review)”
Behemoth – The Shit ov God (Review)
Behemoth are a Polish blackened death metal band and this is their thirteenth album.
I thoroughly enjoyed 2018’s I Loved You at Your Darkest, but somehow missed its follow up. Not so with The Shit ov God, which gives us – dodgy name aside – 39 minutes of new material from Behemoth’s charismatic blend of death and black metal. Continue reading “Behemoth – The Shit ov God (Review)”
A Flock Named Murder – Incendiary Sanctum (Review)
A Flock Named Murder are a black/extreme metal band from Canada and this is their second album.
Incendiary Sanctum only contains four tracks, but has a running time of 64 minutes. A Flock Named Murder are ambitious, and use this time to explore a hybrid sound that combines elements of black, death, doom, and post-metal together very effectively. Continue reading “A Flock Named Murder – Incendiary Sanctum (Review)”
Kardashev – Alunea (Review)

Kardashev return, after the acclaimed Liminal Rite from 2022. The self-styled deathgaze band have provided us with 43 minutes of new material on Alunea. Continue reading “Kardashev – Alunea (Review)”
