Eroded – Necropath (Review)

ErodedEroded are an Italian death metal band and this is their second album.

Featuring 35 minutes of 90s-styled old-school death metal, Eroded have produced a worthy and enjoyable album here. With war metal influences, (musically, if not thematically), and a Scandinavian veneer, Necropath is Hellishly good fun.

Demonic Obedience – Fatalistic Uprisal of Abhorrent Creation (Review)

Demonic ObedienceThis is the third album from Greek/UK blackened death metal band Demonic Obedience.

On Fatalistic Uprisal of Abhorrent Creation Demonic Obedience offer up 33 minutes of malignant blackened death metal. Merging brutality with no small amount of mood and atmosphere, this is a very gratifying album. Continue reading “Demonic Obedience – Fatalistic Uprisal of Abhorrent Creation (Review)”

Self-Hatred – Hlubiny (Review)

Self-HatredSelf-Hatred are from the Czech Republic and this is their second album. They play death/doom metal.

Hlubiny is the follow up to 2016’s very enjoyable Theia, which I really liked for its contemporary take on the death/doom style. On Hlubiny the band have continued to develop and refine their sound, resulting in 42 minutes of material that sees them at their towering, monolithic best. Lago – Sea of Duress (Review)

LagoLago are a US death metal band and this is their second album.

Gutter Instinct – Heirs of Sisyphus (Review)

Gutter InstinctThis is the second album from Gutter Instinct, a Swedish death metal band.

Ahh, I love the sound of Swedish death metal crushing its enemies in the morning, (what’s left of it at least – see later). This is especially the case when the style has a malignant blackened sheen to it, as it does with Gutter Instinct’s malevolent output. Having said that, with every release Gutter Instinct change and refine their sound, and this is true of this latest release, as we’ll see. Deathgrave – So Real, It’s Now (Review)

DeathgraveThis is the debut album from US grindcore band Deathgrave.

Here we have a violent 27 minutes of brutal grindcore. Mixing deathgrind, powerviolence, and punk into its abrasive attack, So Real, It’s Now is impressively rabid. However, and very interestingly, there’s more here than just aggressive tendencies. Continue reading “Deathgrave – So Real, It’s Now (Review)”
