Tonight’s show is sold out, and with good reason; Blackbraid and Winterfylleth is a potent combination. Add in Noctem too, and it’s sure to be a draw. It’s going to be a busy one tonight. Continue reading “Blackbraid/Winterfylleth/Noctem – Rebellion, Manchester – 10/04/26 (Live Review)”

Cnoc an Tursa – A Cry for the Slain (Review)
This is the third album from Scottish folk black metal band Cnoc an Tursa.
Brought into the world by current/ex-members of Barshasketh and Ruadh, A Cry for the Slain contains 44 minutes of folk-enriched black metal. The promo blurb states that this is for fans of Primordial, Winterfylleth, Saor, and Forefather, so with that in mind, it’s Continue reading “Cnoc an Tursa – A Cry for the Slain (Review)”
Blackbraid – Blackbraid III (Review)
This is the third album from US black metal solo act Blackbraid.
Following on from 2022’s Blackbraid I and 2023’s Blackbraid II, Blackbraid III contains 52 minutes of music, (including a Lord Belial cover), and continues to meet the benchmark of high quality black metal that its predecessors set. Continue reading “Blackbraid – Blackbraid III (Review)”
Fortress Festival 2024 – Scarborough Spa, Scarborough, 01-02/06/24 (Live Review)
What an incredible lineup this is. I mean, just look at it. It’s ridiculous. I’ve never been to Fortress Festival before, (this is its second year), or Scarborough, but this was an event not to be missed. My words below won’t really do justice to what a great festival this was, but hopefully you’ll get a flavour of it at the very least.
Before we get into it – if you’ve ever read one of my live reviews previously you’ll notice that the quality of the photos used here far, far, far outstrips my usual meagre efforts. This is because I didn’t take them. I’m enormously pleased to say that they very talented Aleksandra Hogg captured and supplied all of these photos, and I urge you to check out her work at Acidolka here, here, or here. Blackbraid – Blackbraid II (Review)
This is the second album from black metal solo act Blackbraid.
Blackbraid I was a very enjoyable album, which showcased the work of a talented new artist. Now though we have the immense Blackbraid II to absorb ourselves in. With a length of 66 minutes,(which includes a Bathory cover), it’s almost double the duration of its predecessor, and reveals that Blackbraid’s debut was no one-hit wonder. Continue reading “Blackbraid – Blackbraid II (Review)”
Krigsgrav – Fires in the Fall (Review)
Krigsgrav are a black metal band from the US and this is their seventh album.
I haven’t caught up with Krigsgrav since their 2016 album Waves of Degradation, so it’s good to check in with them once more. Fires in the Fall contains 53 minutes of new material and reveals some changes to the band’s sound, which can be roughly and facetiously summarised as shorter songs, more doom. Blackbraid – Blackbraid I (Review)
This is the debut album from black metal solo act Blackbraid.
The music on Blackbraid I is a form of black metal that takes from the classic and atmospheric styles to create something all of its own. Native American folk influences can also be heard, and these are well-integrated into the music’s Continue reading “Blackbraid – Blackbraid I (Review)”
