You may be familiar with the work of Arne Uekert from German black metal band Ctulu, which is a personal favourite of mine, (see some reviews here, here, and here). What you may not be aware of, however, is Arne’s involvement in Schloff Guitars & Basses, so if you play an instrument then this might be of interest to you. Aynsophar – Abysmal Secrets of Unknown (Review)
Aynsophar is a Hungarian one-woman progressive death metal band.
It’s always nice to hear a bit of progressive death metal, especially when done well as it is here. Continue reading “Aynsophar – Abysmal Secrets of Unknown (Review)”
Dirtyprotest – Hellstorm (Review)
Dirtyprotest are an Irish death metal band and this is their debut album.
Essentially a one-man band with a main guest singer, (and some additional ones too), Hellstorm offers up 35 minutes of classic death metal. It’s old-school and has a predilection for the Swedish style – what’s not to like? Continue reading “Dirtyprotest – Hellstorm (Review)”
Corpse Garden – IAO 269 (Review)
This is the third album by Costa Rican death metallers Corpse Garden.
Following up from 2015’s Entheogen, Corpse Garden are back with 51 minutes of dark, evil death metal. Continue reading “Corpse Garden – IAO 269 (Review)”

It’s that special time of year once more. With yet another amazing lineup of quality bands both big and small, the UK’s Damnation Festival returns this weekend for another sold out weekend of extremity. So yes, on Saturday 4th November at Leeds University, something colossal will be happening.

Barrowlands – Tyndir (Review
Barrowlands are from the US and play progressive black metal. This is their second album.
Tyndir is a case study in dark emotion and bleak, sorrowful atmospheres. The songs are progressive explorations of the awe and majesty of nature, replete with all of the danger and lurking terror that seems to accompany a dark forest in the dead of night. Continue reading “Barrowlands – Tyndir (Review”
Voids – No Character: No Crown (Review)
Voids are a metalcore band from the US and this is their debut album.
Heavy, heavy, heavy! That’s the aim of Voids. Well, that and ripping up your local pit. Well, that and providing a singable chorus. Well, that and…okay, so there’s more to Voids than you might initially think, as they operate in a few different metalcore circles, and largely do all of them quite well. Continue reading “Voids – No Character: No Crown (Review)”
Promethean Misery – Ghosts (Review)
Promethean Misery is a one-woman project playing atmospheric and doom metal-influenced neo-classical music.
After her extremely impressive and enjoyable Bloodlet EP from earlier in the year, this new album contains more alluring, dark, and wonderfully-realised music. Continue reading “Promethean Misery – Ghosts (Review)”
Savage Messiah – Hands of Fate (Review)
This is the fourth album from UK metal band Savage Messiah.
Savage Messiah specialise in modern melodic metal, while combining elements of both old and new into their sound. Hands of Fate contains over 45 minutes of this anthemic, personable metal. Continue reading “Savage Messiah – Hands of Fate (Review)”
Ram – Rod (Review)
This is the fifth album from Swedish heavy metallers Ram.
I loved 2015’s Svbversvm. It was just such a good record. Well-written, well-recorded, and delivered with a classic flair for songwriting, it’s one of my favourite heavy metal releases of recent years. Continue reading “Ram – Rod (Review)”
