Old Night – Mediterranean Melancholy (Review)

Old Night - Mediterranean MelancholyOld Night are a Croatian doom metal band and this is their fourth album.

2017’s Pale Cold Irrelevance and 2019’s A Fracture in the Human Soul were both great records, so I was pleased and surprised when Mediterranean Melancholy appeared out of the blue. I was even more surprised to find out that Old Night released another album – Ghost Light – in 2022 that had completely escaped my attention. Boo! Anyway, let’s now turn our attention to the 44 minutes of new material on Mediterranean Melancholy. Continue reading “Old Night – Mediterranean Melancholy (Review)”

Restless Spirit – Afterimage (Review)

Restless Spirit - AfterimageRestless Spirit are a metal band from the US and this is their third album.

Afterimage contains 38 minutes of heavy, moreish music that’s infectiously delivered by a band that clearly know what they’re doing. Restless Spirit are not to be ignored. Fans of acts such as Somnuri, Witch Ripper, Khemmis, and Spirit Adrift please take note. Continue reading “Restless Spirit – Afterimage (Review)”

Spirit Adrift – Ghost at the Gallows (Review)

Spirit Adrift - Ghost at the GallowsThis is the fifth album from the US heavy metal band Spirit Adrift.

I’ve always enjoyed what Spirit Adrift offer, (check out Chained to Oblivion, Curse of Conception, Divided by Darkness, and Enlightened in Eternity), so new album Ghost at the Gallows is most welcome. Continue reading “Spirit Adrift – Ghost at the Gallows (Review)”

Spirit Adrift – Enlightened in Eternity (Review)

Spirit Adrift - Enlightened in EternityThis is the fourth album from the US heavy metal band Spirit Adrift.

Up to this point, each Spirit Adrift album has been better and more developed than its predecessor. From 2016’s Chained to Oblivion, to 2017’s Curse of Conception, and then last year’s Divided by Darkness, this prolific Continue reading “Spirit Adrift – Enlightened in Eternity (Review)”

Gatecreeper – Deserted (Review)

Gatecreeper - DesertedThis is the second album from Gatecreeper, a death metal band from the US.

2016’s Sonoran Depravation and the band’s split release with Iron Reagan in 2018 were both extremely enjoyable, revealing a talent for old-school death metal. Deserted cements this and pushes further, providing 40 minutes of punishing and engrossing tunes. Continue reading “Gatecreeper – Deserted (Review)”

Interview with Spirit Adrift 2019

Spirit Adrift Header

Spirit Adrift’s new album Divided by Darkness is my favourite album yet by this superlative band. Filled with rousing songs, engrossing melodies, infectious riffs, and quality writing, Divided by Darkness is sure to make an impact on many best of 2019 lists I’m sure.

I quizzed band mastermind Nate Garrett about the band’s latest release, and found out a few interesting things… Continue reading “Interview with Spirit Adrift 2019”

Spirit Adrift – Divided by Darkness (Review)

Spirit Adrift - Divided by DarknessThis is the third album from the US heavy metal band Spirit Adrift.

Spirit Adrift’s journey so far has been an enjoyable and interesting one, from the doom metal lengthy epics of Chained to Oblivion, via the streamlined doom/heavy metal hybrid that was Curse of Conception, to now this latest Continue reading “Spirit Adrift – Divided by Darkness (Review)”

Spirit Adrift – Curse of Conception (Review)

Spirit AdriftSpirit Adrift are a doom metal band from the US and this is their second album.

Notable for their first album Chained to Oblivion, Spirit Adrift has now transformed from a solo project into a full band and have already unleashed a new record on us. Continue reading “Spirit Adrift – Curse of Conception (Review)”

Spirit Adrift – Chained to Oblivion (Review)

Spirit AdriftThis is the debut album from Spirit Adrift, a one-man doom metal band from the US.

Chained to Oblivion has got some very tasty riffs on it. Oh yes. It’s a right old riff-fest, actually. The fact that these riffs combine to form songs that hit the mark with a lot of accuracy, is even better.

With a warm, heavy sound, these five tracks impress from the start, and seem to go from strength to Continue reading “Spirit Adrift – Chained to Oblivion (Review)”
