Deserted Fear – Dead Shores Rising (Review)

Deserted FearThis is the third album from German death metal band Deserted Fear.

I thoroughly enjoyed their second album Kingdom of Worms; it was a really solid album of death metal by a band that remembered the importance of actual songs.

Kingdom of Worms also effectively Continue reading “Deserted Fear – Dead Shores Rising (Review)”

Black Anvil – As Was (Review)

Black AnvilThis is the fourth album from US black metal band Black Anvil.

2014’s Hail Death was a firm favourite of mine. They’ve now produced the follow up to this, and it’s great to have them back.

Black Anvil play black metal that combines elements of thrash metal with a more epic, expansive side. Continue reading “Black Anvil – As Was (Review)”

Henry Kane – Den Förstörda Människans Rike (Review)

Henry KaneHenry Kane is a one-man deathgrind/death metal/crust project from Sweden.

This is quite hard to classify, but essentially Den Förstörda Människans Rike is a festering, ugly mix of Swedish death metal, hardcore/crust and Swedish grind.

This is deathgrind of the highest, yet filthiest variety. Think of a mutant mix of Dismember, Nails, Anaal Nathrakh, Nasum and Martyrdöd. Continue reading “Henry Kane – Den Förstörda Människans Rike (Review)”

Vanha – Within the Mist of Sorrow (Review)

VanhaVanha are a doom/death metal band from Sweden. This is their debut album.

This is atmospheric doom metal with some death metal elements added in for extra bite, primarily in the vocal department.

Rooted in the old school doom/death style of the 90s, Vanha combine heaviness, melody and sorrowful keyboards to produce an album that manages to crush both physically and emotionally. Continue reading “Vanha – Within the Mist of Sorrow (Review)”
