Both 2014’s Of Woe and Wounds and 2018’s From Gold to Ash were very enjoyable records, so I knew I wanted in on Until the Darkness Goes‘ action. This is the third album from Worm, a blackened death/doom band from the US.
Foreverglade is the fetid swamp where black metal, funeral doom, and death metal meet and all drown slowly. It hard not to get caught up in the band’s rotting stench. I mean, a blackened form of death/doom? One which knows how to craft atmosphere as well as crush with brutal harsh nastiness, all tied together with very effective songwriting? Sign me up. Right now. This is the debut album from French doom metal band Indigo Raven.
Featuring a member of Mourir, Indigo Raven deliver 43 minutes of doom on Looking for Transcendence, (including bonus track, a Mazzy Star cover). The promo blurb states that the “trio’s sound emerges from the Peaceville Three’s influence with a modern sludge approach”, and this is a suitable description of what you’ll find on this album. Qoya are a French doom rock/post-punk band and this is their debut album.

A Thousand Sufferings are a Belgian blackened doom band and this is their third album.
I’ve enjoyed seeing the development of A Thousand Sufferings over the years. Starting with 2015’s sludgy Burden, and then on to 2018’s increasingly blackened Bleakness, the band made a good impression. It’s now 2021 and we have Stilte; the synthesis of black metal and doom has reached its logical conclusion, and the 41 minutes of material on this new album is the band’s richest and most engrossing so far. This is the fourth album from A Pale Horse Named Death, a Gothic/doom metal band from the US.
Featuring the ex-drummer of both Type O Negative and Life of Agony, we last caught up with A Pale Horse Named Death on 2019’s When the World Becomes Undone, which I enjoyed at the time, but ultimately didn’t live up to the promise of the band’s first two records. Lunar Ark are a blackened doom band from the US and this is their debut album.
