Noxis – Violence Inherent in the System (Review)

Noxis - Violence Inherent in the SystemNoxis are a death metal band from the US and this is their debut album.

Violence Inherent in the System contains 49 minutes, (with the bonus track), of mayhem. While it’s on the longer side for a death metal album, the quantity is backed up by the quality. Continue reading “Noxis – Violence Inherent in the System (Review)”

Aposento – No Safe Haven (Review)

Aposento - No Safe HavenThis is the fourth album form Spanish death metallers Aposento.

I enjoyed 2014’s Aposento and 2017’s Bleed to Death, although I missed 2020’s Conjuring the New Apocalypse. Aposento are now back, with an almost entirely new lineup, and 34 minutes of music in the form of the muscular No Safe Haven. Continue reading “Aposento – No Safe Haven (Review)”

200 Stab Wounds – Manual Manic Procedures (Review)

200 Stab Wounds - Manual Manic ProceduresThis is the second album from US death metallers 200 Stab Wounds.

With a name like 200 Stab Wounds, you know this is going to be brutal, and if you weren’t sure, then the album cover would surely confirm it. Manual Manic Procedures contains 29 minutes of bloodthirsty cruelty, and if you’re a death metal fan then it’s an easy album to enjoy getting punched around by. Spawned from Hate – Elective Amputation (Review)

Spawned from Hate - Elective AmputationSpawned from Hate are a UK death metal band and this is the debut album.

So here we are then, the long overdue first album from Spawned from Hate. I enjoyed 2015’s EP Accelerated Butchery, as well as their 2018 promo, but then…the slaughterhouse went silent.

No longer. Continue reading “Spawned from Hate – Elective Amputation (Review)”

Construct of Lethe – A Kindness Dealt in Venom (Review)

Construct of Lethe - A Kindness Dealt in VenomThis is the third album from US death metal band Construct of Lethe.

Construct of Lethe’s last album Exiler came out in 2018, and was a brutal affair of merciless death metal. The band have moved on since then, and A Kindness Dealt in Venom offers up a mix of death and black metal, with touches of doom, and further enriched by electronics, synths, and industrial elements. Its foundation is a death metal one, but it’s not limited to purely this genre. Continue reading “Construct of Lethe – A Kindness Dealt in Venom (Review)”

Hyperdontia – Harvest of Malevolence (Review)

Hyperdontia - Harvest of MalevolenceThis is the third album from Hyperdontia, an international death metal band.

Harvest of Malevolence is the 40-minute follow up to 2021’s very enjoyable Hideous Entity, which made it onto my end of year list. Hyperdontia seem to just be getting better and better, and Harvest of Malevolence is another win for this skilled death metal act. Continue reading “Hyperdontia – Harvest of Malevolence (Review)”

Replacire – The Center That Cannot Hold (Review)

Replacire - The Center That Cannot HoldThis is the third album by US technical death metal band Replacire.

It’s been a long seven years since 2017’s Do Not Deviate, but now Replacire are back, and they’re on fire. Delivering 44 minutes of death metal that’s distinctly not your standard fare, The Center That Cannot Hold is not a record for the uninitiated. Continue reading “Replacire – The Center That Cannot Hold (Review)”

Downfall of Mankind – Purgatory (Review)

Downfall of Mankind - PurgatoryThis is the second album from Portuguese deathcore band Downfall of Mankind.

The promo blurb recommends Purgatory for fans of bands such as Distant, Gojira, and Lorna Shore, and calls it a mix of deathcore, progressive metal and atmosphere, which saves me the job of providing a rough overview before we get into the meat of it. Ulcerate – Cutting the Throat of God (Review)

Ulcerate - Cutting the Throat of GodThis is the seventh album from New Zealand death metal act Ulcerate.

Following on from 2016’s Shrines of Paralysis and 2020’s Stare into Death and Be Still, the mighty Ulcerate have now returned with the 58-minute Cutting the Throat of God. Continue reading “Ulcerate – Cutting the Throat of God (Review)”

Aseitas – Eden Trough (Review)

Aseitas - Eden TroughThis is the third album from US death metal band Aseitas.

2020’s False Peace was a mammoth album, brimming with ideas, boasting 11 tracks, and lasting 72 minutes. On Eden Trough Aseitas trim down to a more manageable 5 tracks and a much-shorter 30 minutes, leading me to wonder if their experimental death metal is still as multifaceted and layered as it was previously?
