Fleshgod Apocalypse – Opera (Review)

Fleshgod Apocalypse - OperaThis is the sixth album from Fleshgod Apocalypse, an Italian death metal band.

Both 2016’s King and 2019’s Veleno were notable records, so it’s with great interest that we turn to the 43 minutes of new music on Opera. Returning after their biggest gap between albums, after challenging adversity, and with a change in lineup since their last album, what does 2024’s Fleshgod Apocalypse have to offer the world at large? Nile – The Underworld Awaits Us All (Review)

Nile - The Underworld Awaits Us AllNile are a US death metal band and this is their tenth album.

It has been a long five years since 2019’s Vile Nilotic Rites, which itself came four years after 2015’s What Should Not Be Unearthed. Suffice to say, Nile albums don’t come along very often, which makes The Underworld Awaits Us All a big deal in death metal circles. Continue reading “Nile – The Underworld Awaits Us All (Review)”

Ignobleth – Voidspawn Sacrifice (Review)

Ignobleth - Voidspawn SacrificeThis is the debut EP from Ignobleth, an Italian black/death metal band.

Here’s we have a passionate slab of old-school darkness. Ignobleth play war metal brutality that’s grim and sinister. Voidspawn Sacrifice combines black and death metal – with a slight leaning towards the latter – into 15 enjoyable minutes. Continue reading “Ignobleth – Voidspawn Sacrifice (Review)”

Evilyn – Mondestrunken (Review)

Evilyn - MondestrunkenEvilyn are an international death metal band and this is their debut album.

Vile Rites – Senescence (Review)

Vile Rites - SenescenceVile Rites are a death metal band from the US and this is their debut album.

Vile Rites contain a member of Mortuous in their ranks, which is enough to get my attention. Senescence offers us 40 minutes of progressive death metal of a high quality. Some bands playing this sort of style get bogged down in the technicality, but for Vile Rites this is just an enabler, not the prime goal of the music. Continue reading “Vile Rites – Senescence (Review)”

Oxygen Destroyer – Guardian of the Universe (Review)

Oxygen Destroyer - Guardian of the UniverseOxygen Destroyer are a death/thrash metal band from the US and this is their third album.

Guardian of the Universe is the 33-minute follow up to 2021’s enjoyable Sinister Monstrosities Spawned by the Unfathomable Ignorance of Humankind, and once again features an explosive cocktail of nasty extremity. Continue reading “Oxygen Destroyer – Guardian of the Universe (Review)”

Fulci – Duck Face Killings (Review)

Fulci - Duck Face KillingsFulci are an Italian death metal band and this is their fourth album.

Fulci have made a name for themselves by combing classic old-school death metal with equally classic old-school horror soundtrack sounds, and in this specialist area they excel. Duck Face Killings continues with Fulci’s chosen artform, and delivers a bloodthirsty 33-minute death metal masterclass. Continue reading “Fulci – Duck Face Killings (Review)”

Draghkar/Helcaraxë – A Glorious Call in the Terrible Darkness – Split (Review)

Draghkar Helcaraxë - A Glorious Call in the Terrible Darkness - SplitThis is a split between Draghkar and Helcaraxë, both death metal bands from the US.

I missed this earlier in the year, but here it is now, and you’d better believe it’s worth your time to give it a few spins. I’m a big fan of Draghkar, so I couldn’t let this slide by without comment, (make sure you check out World Unraveled, split with Desekryptor, The Endless Howling Abyss, and At the Crossroads of Infinity). On this split with Helcaraxë both bands offer up one song. Continue reading “Draghkar/Helcaraxë – A Glorious Call in the Terrible Darkness – Split (Review)”

Carnophage – Matter of a Darker Nature (Review)

Carnophage - Matter of a Darker NatureThis is the third album from Carnophage, a Turkish death metal band.

It’s been a long time since 2016’s Monument, but Carnophage have now unleashed a new album. Matter of a Darker Nature is a 33-minute death metal masterclass – rooted in the brutal death metal style, but not limited to it. Continue reading “Carnophage – Matter of a Darker Nature (Review)”

Brought to us by an ex-member of NecrovileScourged contains 31 minutes of brutal death metal. It’s ferocious and uncompromising, yet also has more depth to it than many ostensibly similar bands. Continue reading “Pathogenic Virulence – Scourged (Review)”
