Phrenelith – Ashen Womb (Review)

Phrenelith - Ashen WombThis is the third album from Phrenelith, a death metal band from Denmark.

Following on from 2021’s Chimaera comes the 39-minute monstrosity Ashen Womb. This is absolutely hideous stuff, from a band that apparently just keep on improving. Phrenelith have unleashed something truly malefic here. Continue reading “Phrenelith – Ashen Womb (Review)”

Relics of Humanity – Absolute Dismal Domain (Review)

Relics of Humanity - Absolute Dismal DomainThis is the third album from Belarus death metallers Relics of Humanity.

It’s been a while since 2019’s Obscuration came out; a devastating EP that left me hungry for more. Alas, there was no more to be had, at least not until now. So, after six years, and with a change in singer, can the 2025 version of Relics of Humanity still hold their own in the death metal killing arenas? Continue reading “Relics of Humanity – Absolute Dismal Domain (Review)”

Necronos – Charred Tongue (Review)

Necronos - Charred TongueNecronos are a Mexican death metal band and this is their debut album.

Charred Tongue is a 33-minute death metal album bursting with chaotic aggression that’s been tempered by a keen sense of worldbuilding. Mixing atmospheric, progressive, technical, and dissonant death metal together with skilled ability, Necronos have crafted an album that showcases their talents well. The Halo Effect – March of the Unheard (Review)

The Halo Effect - March of the UnheardThis is the second album from Swedish melodic death metal band The Halo Effect.

2022’s Days of the Lost was an album I really enjoyed, so it’s great to have a new album once more from The Halo Effect. In case you’re unaware, The Halo Effect are a band that features ex-members of In Flames, (and many other bands), along with the singer of Dark Tranquillity, (also from Grand Cadaver and Cemetery Skyline, and who was also in In Flames very early on). Yep, there’s a lot of talent involved in the March of the Unheard. Continue reading “The Halo Effect – March of the Unheard (Review)”

Faithxtractor – Loathing & the Noose (Review)

Faithxtractor - Loathing & the NooseFaithxtractor are a death metal band from the US and this is their fifth album.

Following on from 2023’s Contempt for a Failed Dimension, Faithxtractor return with the 37-minute Loathing & the Noose. This band haven’t disappointed me yet, so dig in if you’re a fan of death metal that smashes your skull and stomps your bones. Continue reading “Faithxtractor – Loathing & the Noose (Review)”

Mutagenic Host – The Diseased Machine (Review)

Mutagenic Host - The Diseased MachineThis is the debut album from UK death metallers Mutagenic Host.

The Diseased Machine is a 41-minute death metal album that will smash you to the ground, stomp on your body, and cover you in sickness. Yep, it’s Mutagenic Host, and they’re here to deliver a gospel of disease. Continue reading “Mutagenic Host – The Diseased Machine (Review)”

Orgone – Pleroma (Review)

Orgone - PleromaThis is the third album from US progressive extreme metal band Orgone.

Pleroma is a 65-minute multifaceted beast of a record that, loosely, can be described as progressive/technical death metal. Orgone flesh out their death metal base with technical expertise and progressive depth. Around this though they breach a range of other musical territories, including folk, jazz, classical, and progressive rock. Continue reading “Orgone – Pleroma (Review)”

Impurist – Punishment Without Mercy (Review)

Impurist - Punishment Without MercyThis is the debut EP from UK death metallers Impurist.

Impurist made a good impression with me when I caught them at this year’s UK Slam Fest, so it’s high time for a dive into their 16-minute EP Punishment Without Mercy, which saw the light of day back in the depths of April. Continue reading “Impurist – Punishment Without Mercy (Review)”

Sarcophagum – The Grand Arc of Madness (Review)

Sarcophagum - The Grand Arc of MadnessThis is the debut album from Australian death metallers Sarcophagum.

Essentially a side band of the gloriously nasty Golgothan Remains, (three out of four members have links to the band), Sarcophagum also boast the talents of the drummer of the mighty Ashen Horde, (also current/ex-member of Blade of Horus, Decrepid, Evilyn, Norse, Somnium Nox, Virulent Depravity, and more). Suffice to say, I knew I had to check this out. Continue reading “Sarcophagum – The Grand Arc of Madness (Review)”

Neckbreakker – Within the Viscera (Review)

Neckbreakker - Within the VisceraThis is the debut album from Danish death metal band Neckbreakker.

Within the Viscera contains 46 minutes of music for fans of pit-friendly heaviness. Neckbreakker’s style is a death metal one that has a healthy dollop of groove metal and hardcore thrown in for good measure, all with the aim of getting people moving. It works too. Continue reading “Neckbreakker – Within the Viscera (Review)”
