Kafirun – Eschaton (Review)

KafirunThis is the debut album from Kafirun, a Canadian black metal band.

I very much enjoyed Kafirun’s Death Worship and Glorification of Holy Death releases, and this early work of theirs demonstrated the great promise that the band had. I always felt that they were building up to something, and apparently that something is Eschaton. Continue reading “Kafirun – Eschaton (Review)”

Svartsyn – In Death (Review)

SvartsynSvartsyn is a cult one-man Swedish black metal band and this is his ninth album.

This is classic black metal, misanthropic and pure. If you’re looking for a hit of the good stuff, then In Death has almost 50 minutes of it. Continue reading “Svartsyn – In Death (Review)”

Lvx Haeresis – Descensŭs Spīrĭtŭs (Review)

Lvx HaeresisThis is the debut album from Lvx Haeresis, a Swiss black metal band.

This is ritualistic, occult black metal that takes influence from such bands as Ondskapt, Schammasch, and Funeral Mist to craft music that takes the listener on a blackened journey to sights foul and unclean. Continue reading “Lvx Haeresis – Descensŭs Spīrĭtŭs (Review)”

The Noctambulant – Advocatus Diaboli (Review)

The NoctambulantThe Noctambulant are a melodic black metal band form the US and this is their debut album.

Folie a Deux – Misanthropic Slaughter Cult (Review)

Folie a DeuxFolie a Deux are a black metal band from Sweden and this is their debut album.

This is underground and nasty. The band’s style is somewhere between black and death metal, taking elements of both and barking rough growling shouts over the top of everything. Continue reading “Folie a Deux – Misanthropic Slaughter Cult (Review)”

Dødsengel – Interequinox (Review)

DødsengelDødsengel are a Norwegian black metal band and this is their fourth album.

Well, there’s a lot going on here. I very much enjoyed their split with Nightbringer, but it didn’t prepare me for this.

This is sophisticated black metal with a broad theatrical side when it comes to the vocals, almost like an occult ritualistic opera that aims to summon fell beings from the abyss. Continue reading “Dødsengel – Interequinox (Review)”

Muka – Sveta Stoka (Review)

MukaMuka are a Croatian black metal band and this is their second album.

Here we have almost 30 minutes of dark, dissonant black metal. This description doesn’t paint a complete picture though, as here’s a band that play according to their own rules of multi-genre music. Continue reading “Muka – Sveta Stoka (Review)”
