Chaos Inception – Vengeance Evangel (Review)

Chaos Inception - Vengeance EvangelThis is the third album from US death metallers Chaos Inception.

Wow, I did not see this coming. 2012’s The Abrogation stood out with its quality, and I’ve periodically wondered over the years if we’d ever see another from Chaos Inception. I had long assumed not, but here it is – unheralded, and unexpected. Can Chaos Inception stand up to scrutiny in 2025? Continue reading “Chaos Inception – Vengeance Evangel (Review)”

Aversed – Erasure of Color (Review)

Aversed - Erasure of ColorThis is the second album from US extreme metal band Aversed.

2021’s Impermanent was an enjoyable album that mixed a few different metal styles together to deliver a satisfying result. Four years and a change of singer later, and Aversed are back with the 40-minute Erasure of Color. Continue reading “Aversed – Erasure of Color (Review)”

Shrine of Denial – I, Moloch (Review)

Shrine of Denial - I, MolochThis is the debut album from Turkish blackened death metal band Shrine of Denial.

On I, Moloch Shrine of Denial offer up 31 minutes of blackened death metal that delivers a mix of blunt force and arcane might. It’s a quality album that doesn’t outstay its welcome. Continue reading “Shrine of Denial – I, Moloch (Review)”

Necrambulant – Upheaval of Malignant Necrambulance (Review)

Necrambulant - Upheaval of Malignant NecrambulanceThis is the second album from US death metal band Necrambulant.

Well, it’s been twelve years since Infernal Infectious Necro-Ambulatory Pandemic saw the light of day, so I thought I’d better check out Upheaval of Malignant Necrambulance to see what Necrambulant have been up to since then. Apparently they split up in 2014, only to reform in 2022 with a new lineup, (including vocals now from the bands ex-drummer). So there we are then. Crown Magnetar – Punishment (Review)

Crown Magnetar - PunishmentThis is the latest EP from US deathcore band Crown Magnetar.

Containing 13 minutes of material, Crown Magnetar play deathcore on the more brutal end of the spectrum. Punishment is aptly named, dishing out four succinct beatings that don’t hold back. Continue reading “Crown Magnetar – Punishment (Review)”

Whitechapel – Hymns in Dissonance (Review)

Whitechapel - Hymns in DissonanceThis is the ninth album from US deathcore/death metal band Whitechapel.

I do so enjoy a new Whitechapel album. Our Endless WarMark of the Blade, The Valley, Kin – take your pick; all Whitechapel albums have something a to offer, and all hit the spot for yours truly. Well, the band are back once more with a new 45-minute album in the shape of Hymns in Dissonance. Continue reading “Whitechapel – Hymns in Dissonance (Review)”

Avulsed – Phoenix Cryptobiosis (Review)

Avulsed - Phoenix CryptobiosisAvulsed are a Spanish death metal band and this is their seventh album, (or eighth, if you include Deathgenerations).

It’s been sooooooo long since the last Avulsed album. 2013, in fact – Ritual Zombi. The band haven’t been totally dormant though, as 2015 brought us the EP Altar of Disembowelment, and then over the following two years we were subjected to a whole a feast of gore in Deathgenerations and Night of the Living Deathgenerations. Arising from personal tragedy, 2023 then teased us with the two-track  Extraterrestrial Carnage, which whet the appetite for more quite considerably. And more, we now have. Vacuous – In His Blood (Review)

Vacuous - In His BloodThis is the second album from UK death metallers Vacuous.

2022’s Dreams of Dysphoria was a record that stood out from the crowd with its own take on a darker version of old-school death metal. As a result, I’ve been really looking forward to In His Blood. Can lightning strike twice? Continue reading “Vacuous – In His Blood (Review)”

Sepulchral Curse – Crimson Moon Evocations (Review)

Sepulchral Curse - Crimson Moon EvocationsThis is the third album from Sepulchral Curse, a Finnish death metal band.

Sepulchral Curse have never let me down yet. Ever since discovering their dark brand of extremity on their 2016 EP At the Onset of Extinction, they have loomed large in my mind as quality purveyors of blackened death metal. Their first two albums – 2020’s Only Ashes Remain and 2023’s Abhorrent Dimensions – were both extremely enjoyable, so we turn to their third one with great expectations. Celestial Scourge – Observers of the Inevitable (Review)

Celestial Scourge - Observers of the InevitableCelestial Scourge are a Norwegian death metal band and this is their debut album.
