Wolvhammer – The Monuments of Ash & Bone (Review)

WolvhammerThis is the fourth album from US black metallers Wolvhammer.

This is the much-awaited follow-up to 2014’s Clawing into Black Sun, which was one of my favourite releases of that year. To say I’ve been looking forward to this album is an understatement. Continue reading “Wolvhammer – The Monuments of Ash & Bone (Review)”

All My Sins – Zov iz Magle (Review)

All My SinsAll My Sins are a Serbian black metal band and this is their latest release.

After the enjoyable Lunar/Solar from last year, we now have this new EP that gives us one track off an upcoming full length album, and one that’s exclusive to this current short release. Continue reading “All My Sins – Zov iz Magle (Review)”

Above Aurora – Path to Ruin (Review)

Above AuroraAbove Aurora are a Polish black metal band and this is their latest EP.

Above Aurora play black metal laced with venom and swirling with dark energies. This release contains three songs with a total duration of 17 minutes, and should appeal to those that like their black metal to have a nuanced, mid-paced approach to spreading darkness. Continue reading “Above Aurora – Path to Ruin (Review)”

Ende – Goétie Funeste (Review)

EndeEnde are a French black metal band and this is their fourth album.

I very much enjoy Ende’s work. Both 2015’s The Rebirth of I and 2017’s Emën Etan were effective examples of traditionally-delivered raw black metal, played well and with good songs. It’s only actually been a year since Emën Etan, but it seems there has been no rest in the Ende camp. Their lack of sleep is to our benefit, however. Nigredo – Flesh Torn – Spirit Pierced (Review)

NigredoThis is the debut album from Nigredo, a black metal band from Greece.

Vicious and occult, Nigredo’s music is one of cutting edge blackened dissonance mixed with something more atavistic and primal. Continue reading “Nigredo – Flesh Torn – Spirit Pierced (Review)”

Afsky – Sorg (Review)

AfskyAfsky is a one man black metal band from Denmark and this is his debut album.

Although principally a solo act, the artist behind Afsky did bring in many session musicians for the creation of this album, (including Myrkur who brings not only her musical skills to the band, but also her always impressive vocals at the end of the last song). These help to flesh out the album fully, and add additional touches to the songs here and there. For example; Continue reading “Afsky – Sorg (Review)”

Ifernach – Maqtewek Nakuset (Review)

IfernachThis is the second release from Ifernach, a one man Canadian black metal act.

Taking influence from the classic second wave sound and injecting it not only with a savage, feral character, but a nuanced, nature-inspired atmospheric one too, this release is 30 minutes of unforgiving raw black metal. Continue reading “Ifernach – Maqtewek Nakuset (Review)”

Enoquian – Llamas de Gloria Primera (Review)

EnoquianThis is the debut album from Argentinian black metal band Enoquian.

Llamas de Gloria Primera contains 39 minutes of enjoyably raw second wave-influenced black metal. Continue reading “Enoquian – Llamas de Gloria Primera (Review)”

Christ Dismembered – Christ Dismembered (Review)

Christ DismemberedChrist Dismembered are an Australian black metal band and this is their debut album.

With a duration of only 28 minutes, this album goes for the throat big time. Yes, it’s time for some raw second wave black metal, and Christ Dismembered play their brand of misanthropic hatred very well. Continue reading “Christ Dismembered – Christ Dismembered (Review)”

Aorlhac – L’esprit des Vents (Review)

AorlhacThis is the third album from French black metallers Aorlhac.

Here we have some strong, authentic epic/melodic second wave black metal. It does exactly what you’d expect it to, and it does it very well indeed. Continue reading “Aorlhac – L’esprit des Vents (Review)”
