Unfleshing – Violent Reason (Review)

Unfleshing - Violent ReasonUnfleshing are a blackened crust band from the US and this is their debut album.

Violent Reason is a 25-minute snarling monstrosity of black metal, hardcore, crust, and grindcore. Unfleshing’s debut record is a beast. Continue reading “Unfleshing – Violent Reason (Review)”

Cabal – Everything Rots (Review)

Cabal - Everything RotsThis is the fourth album from Danish deathcore band Cabal.

I really like Cabal, so was well chuffed when Everything Rots appeared on the horizon like a gathering storm. 2020’s Drag Me Down and 2022’s Magno Interitus were both first class examples of deathcore heaviness. The latter showed a progression in the band’s sound too, reducing the blackened influences. What will the 38 minutes of new material on Everything Rots reveal? Gates to Hell – Death Comes to All (Review)

Gates to Hell - Death Comes to AllThis is the second album from US death metal band Gates to Hell.

Gates to Hell play a form of death metal that’s been injected with hardcore urgency, grindcore intensity, and slamming heaviness. Crown Magnetar - PunishmentThis is the latest EP from US deathcore band Crown Magnetar.

Containing 13 minutes of material, Crown Magnetar play deathcore on the more brutal end of the spectrum. Punishment is aptly named, dishing out four succinct beatings that don’t hold back. Continue reading “Crown Magnetar – Punishment (Review)”

Bleeding Through - NineBleeding Through are a metalcore band from the US and this is their ninth album.

It has been some time since the last Bleeding Through album, (2018’s Love Will Kill All), but fresh off the back of seeing the band last year at 2024’s Damnation Festival, I have been looking forward to getting stuck into Nine. Continue reading “Bleeding Through – Nine (Review)”

Jinjer – Duél (Review)

Jinjer - DuélThis is the fifth album from Ukrainian metal band Jinjer.

I haven’t caught up with Jinjer since their 2016 album King of Everything, so this new album seemed like a good place to see how the band are faring in 2025. It turns out, very well indeed. Duél is a keeper. Continue reading “Jinjer – Duél (Review)”

Lay Waste – Savage Rebellion (Review)

Lay Waste - Savage RebellionLay Waste are a grindcore band from the US and this is their debut EP.

I’m going to try to listen to more grindcore this year. It’s a genre I love, but has been a bit thin on the ground for my tastes for the last few years. With that in mind, I randomly came across Lay Waste on Bandcamp, so here we are with my first new grind listening experience of 2025. Continue reading “Lay Waste – Savage Rebellion (Review)”
