Within Destruction’s second album Void was one that made a notable impact. Here we had an album that did deathcore right; blistering death metal extremity coupled with huge slamming deathcore beatdowns, all delivered in a modern package of brutality and carnage. Top stuff. This is the fifth album from Vanhelgd, a death metal band from Sweden.
Both 2014’s Relics of Sulphur Salvation and 2016’s Temple of Phobos are prime examples of quality and creative death metal done right. The latter made it onto my 2016 end of year list, such was the impression it made. As such, I’ve been eagerly awaiting more material from this sterling band.
