Mindscar – What’s Beyond the Light (Review)

This is the second album from this US death/thrash metal band.

Mindscar’s first album Kill the King introduced us to their modern death metal, which incorporated a few different sub-styles into its recipe, making for an enjoyable album that wasn’t afraid to push the envelope a bit.

Ashcloud – Children of the Chainsaw (Review)

This is the second album from Ashcloud, a death metal band.

If you’re a death metal band and you release an album named Children of the Chainsaw, you’d better be playing old-school Swedish death metal, or it’s just a wasted opportunity. Ashcloud do exactly that, but with a few twists to the formula. This is 45 minutes of disgustingly old-school crusty death metal that will clear the cobwebs away with huge gusts of molten fumes.

Necroptic Engorgement – Realms of Incessant Bloodshed (Review)

Necroptic Engorgement are a death metal band from the US. This is their latest EP.

This is brutal death metal with a touch of deathgrind added for extra flavour.

Dawn of Disease – Worship the Grave (Review)

This is the third album from Dawn of Disease, a German death metal band.

Dawn of Disease seem to have honed their songwriting skills and are now channelling the spirit of 90s song-based death metal. It’s catchy, memorable and there’s more than a few twisting melodies and riffs that will stick in your head long after it’s stopped playing. Denominate – Those Who Beheld the End (Review)

Denominate are from Finland and play death metal. This is their debut album.

Here we have 43 minutes of progressive/technical death metal. Take some Carcass/Death influences and mix with something like Vital Remains…are you interested yet? You should be…

Human Vivisection – The Perpetual Gap (Review)

Human Vivisection are a death metal band from Belgium, this is their debut album.

This is brutal death metal replete with beatdowns and crushing groove; 35 minutes of brutality.

Lord of War – Suffer (Review)

This is the second album from Lord of War, a US death metal band.

On Suffer, Lord of War deliver 49 minutes of well-recorded modern death metal with enough strength and power to floor an elephant.

Korpse – Unethical (Review)

This is the second album from Korpse, who are a death metal band from the Netherlands.

This is brutal death metal with a hearty slam component. The band have a powerful sound and really go for the kill.

Tides of Sulfur – Extinction Curse (Review)

This is the début album from Tides of Sulfur, a death/sludge metal band from the UK.

Like The Dead, Tides of Sulfur combine death and sludge metal together into a hideous, swampy mass. Also like The Dead, it’s hard to know whether to categorise them as death metal or sludge metal. Essentially it doesn’t really matter, I suppose, as the band manage to provide a pretty good synthesis of the two on Extinction Curse.
