The Kennedy Veil – Imperium (Review)

The Kennedy VeilThe Kennedy Veil are a death metal band from the US and this is their third album.

I loved Trinity of Falsehood, absolutely loved it. For me, it was an almost perfect example of modern death metal, and ever since that release I’ve been eagerly awaiting their next album. Continue reading “The Kennedy Veil – Imperium (Review)”

Iron Monkey – 9-13 (Review)

Iron MonkeyIron Monkey are sludge metal band from the UK and this is their third album.

After an absence of almost two decades, legendary UK sludgers Iron Monkey have returned with a new album – 48 minutes of pissed off distortion and angry diatribes. Continue reading “Iron Monkey – 9-13 (Review)”

Forgotten Tomb – We Owe You Nothing (Review)

Forgotten TombThis is the ninth album from Forgotten Tomb, an Italian black/doom/sludge metal band.

I do have a particular fondness for Forgotten Tomb. Over the years they have morphed from depressive black metal into some form of reeking, hideous piece of blackened sludge nastiness. They’ve reached the point now on We Owe You Nothing that they’ve just thrown everything that they like about darkness and hatred into 42 minutes of blackened sludge doom. Exhumed – Death Revenge (Review)

ExhumedExhumed are a US death metal band and this is their sixth album.

I’ve had a huge, (wet, mushy, bloody), soft spot for Exhumed from the first time I heard Gore Metal way back when it came out, and ever since I’ve been a fan. Nexus – The Taint (Review)

NexusNexus are an Italian Gothic/industrial rock band and this is their debut album.

Taking an electronic and keyboard powered approach to their music, The Taint is an enjoyable trip to places that I haven’t visited in quite some time. Continue reading “Nexus – The Taint (Review)”

Sea in the Sky – Everything All at Once (Review)

Sea in the SkySea in the Sky are a progressive rock band from the US. This is their debut album.

This is modern progressive rock that has elements of the djent style, but without this aspect of the band’s sound becoming overbearing or distracting, as I find can sometimes be the case. There’s largely just about the right amount of djent in this so that it enhances rather than overpowers. Continue reading “Sea in the Sky – Everything All at Once (Review)”

Mason – Impervious (Review)

MasonMason are an Australian thrash metal band and this is their second album.

Released in what now seems like a very long time ago, Mason’s debut album Warhead saw the light of day in 2013. As enjoyable as this was, the Mason of 2017 is a superior, streamlined killing machine. Continue reading “Mason – Impervious (Review)”

Savage Annihilation – Quand S’baisse la Croix du Blasphème (Review)

Savage AnnihilationSavage Annihilation are a French death metal band and this is their second album.

Savage Annihilation sound almost exactly as you imagine a band with this name would sound. It’s important to take note of the word ‘almost’ in that sentence, however, as there’s more going on here than you might initially think.
