Ape Unit HorsebastardApe Unit are from Italy and Horsebastard are from the UK. These two grindcore bands have teamed up for this short split release.

I haven’t encountered Ape Unit before, but the four minutes or so of irreverent grind that they showcase on this split seem to be as good an introduction as any. Continue reading “Ape Unit/Horsebastard – Split (Review)”

Tarlung – Beyond the Black Pyramid (Review)

TarlungTarlung are an Austrian doom/sludge/stoner band and this is their second album.

This is a powerful mix of stoner, sludge and doom. Lasting over 66 minutes, the band crawl and slither their way through the playing time with gritty heaviness and slothful aggression. Continue reading “Tarlung – Beyond the Black Pyramid (Review)”

Sun Q – Charms (Review)

Sun QSun Q are from Russia and play garage/alternative rock. This is their debut album.

This is a mix of garage, alternative, blues, and psychedelic rock. With keyboards, hammond organ, extra percussion, and a saxophone, this is an entertaining and characterful release that has a 70s lo-fi art-rock feel to it. Continue reading “Sun Q – Charms (Review)”

Grizzly – Reaper (Review)

GrizzlyGrizzly are a grindcore band from Canada and this is their debut album.

Clocking in at just under 17 minutes, this is slightly deceptive as almost a third of the time is devoted to a surprisingly faithful cover of Pantera’s Mouth for War. Continue reading “Grizzly – Reaper (Review)”
