Dragonforce – Reaching into Infinity (Review)

DragonforceDragonforce are a UK power metal band and this is their seventh album.

Dragonforce are back doing what they do best – fast, bright, insanely well-played and intricate power metal. Yep, fans of the band should pretty much know what to expect at this stage in the game. Continue reading “Dragonforce – Reaching into Infinity (Review)”

Promethean – Aloades (Review)

PrometheanPromethean are a French symphonic blackened death metal band and this is their debut EP.

The cover of this alone was enough to pique my interest. You know what they say; come for the cover, stay for the music, right? Continue reading “Promethean – Aloades (Review)”

John Frum – A Stirring in the Noos (Review)

John FrumJohn Frum are a death metal band from the US. This is their debut album.

This is very much not your standard death metal album.

Featuring present and past members of bands such as The Faceless, The Dillinger Escape Plan, and John Zorn, this release combines progressive, avant-garde, atmospheric, dissonant, technical, and psychedelic death metal into a darkly enjoyable whirlwind of chaos and heaviness. Loathfinder – The Great Tired Ones (Review)

LoathfinderLoathfinder are a Polish blackened doom band and this is their debut EP.

To adequately set the scene for this release, you need only stare at the horrors depicted on the album cover. This is what Loathfinder sound like; slow, repugnant, disgusting, and full of bleak horror. Continue reading “Loathfinder – The Great Tired Ones (Review)”

Wearing their influences on their sleeves, Demonsmoke exist in the same world as bands like Eyehategood, Iron Monkey, Dopethrone, and the like. Yep, this is sludgy, nasty, full of infectious heavy blues riffs, and smothered in harsh, hateful vocals. Continue reading “Demonsmoke – Morphine Moonshine (Review)”

Dødsengel – Interequinox (Review)

DødsengelDødsengel are a Norwegian black metal band and this is their fourth album.

Well, there’s a lot going on here. I very much enjoyed their split with Nightbringer, but it didn’t prepare me for this.

This is sophisticated black metal with a broad theatrical side when it comes to the vocals, almost like an occult ritualistic opera that aims to summon fell beings from the abyss. Continue reading “Dødsengel – Interequinox (Review)”
