Repulsive Vision – Look Past the Gore and See the Art (Review)

Repulsive VisionThis is the debut album from UK death metallers Repulsive Vision.

Influenced by the old-school death metal classics, the songs on Look Past the Gore and See the Art are mainly short and to the point, with a slight punk/hardcore influence here and there. Continue reading “Repulsive Vision – Look Past the Gore and See the Art (Review)”

Shaarimoth – Temple of the Adversarial Fire (Review)

ShaarimothThis is the second album from Shaarimoth, a blackened death metal band from Norway.

Featuring a member of Gehenna, this is 48 minutes of blackened death metal that’s not for the weak of disposition or persons easily upset.

Listening to Temple of the Adversarial Fire is the aural equivalent of witnessing something you probably shouldn’t. The entire thing reeks of dark, baleful rituals that are probably better left unaired. Continue reading “Shaarimoth – Temple of the Adversarial Fire (Review)”

Kjeld/Wederganger – Split (Review)

Kjeld WedergangerKjeld and Wederganger are both black metal bands from the Netherlands. They have teamed up for this split release.

Kjeld are the opening band on this split. 2015’s Skym was cold and evil black metal in the Scandinavian style. On this release they contribute 17 minutes of music in the form of three songs. Continue reading “Kjeld/Wederganger – Split (Review)”

Desecrate the Faith – Unholy Infestation (Review)

Desecrate the FaithThis is the second album from US death metallers Desecrate the Faith.

Desecrate the Faith play brutal death metal in the barbarous US style.

This is an unforgiving album that takes no prisoners and grants no mercies. If you’re into Suffocation, Defeated Sanity, Cannibal Corpse, Severe Torture, etc. then Desecrate the Faith should be right up your blood-soaked street. Continue reading “Desecrate the Faith – Unholy Infestation (Review)”

Lucifer’s Fall – II: Cursed & Damned (Review)

Lucifer's FallLucifer’s Fall are an Australian doom metal band and this is their second album.

We know Lucifer’s Fall from their 2014 debut album Lucifer’s Fall and their 2015 EP, (the title track of which also appears on this latest album). Continue reading “Lucifer’s Fall – II: Cursed & Damned (Review)”

Hour of Penance – Cast the First Stone (Review)

Hour of PEnanceThis is the seventh album from Hour of Penance, an Italian death metal band.

Hour of Penance walk the line between technical and brutal death metal; the songs are both sharply played and bluntly brutal. Incorporating the best of both styles into their violent, energetic mix, Cast the First Stone is a focused, directed assault throughout its 35 minute duration. Continue reading “Hour of Penance – Cast the First Stone (Review)”

Wormhole – Genesis (Review)

WormholeWormhole are a US/international death metal band and this is their debut album.

Featuring two singers, (from Vulvodynia and Engorging the Autopsy), and containing 27 minutes of cutting edge extremity, this is sure to be a hit with any fan of brutal, slamming death metal, especially if you’re looking for more depth than you usually find on such releases. Continue reading “Wormhole – Genesis (Review)”

Beheaded – Beast Incarnate (Review)

BeheadedBeheaded are a death metal band from Malta and this is their fifth album.

Beheaded have produced a solid, enjoyable slab of intense death metal with Beast Incarnate. Make no mistake, this will flatten you and stomp on your remains. Continue reading “Beheaded – Beast Incarnate (Review)”

Kreator – Gods of Violence (Review)

KreatorKreator are a legendary thrash metal band from Germany that I very much doubt will need any real introduction. This is their fourteenth album.

Full disclosure – Kreator are one of my favourite bands. They have been, (and remain), one of the most consistently enjoyable thrash metal bands out there. Even at their weakest, (probably Cause for Conflict I’d say), their material is still stronger than that of most similar bands. And of course, when they’re at the Continue reading “Kreator – Gods of Violence (Review)”

Sepultura – Machine Messiah (Review)

SepulturaLegendary Brazilian metal band Sepultura return with their fourteenth album.

On Machine Messiah Sepultura continue their blend of thrash, modern metal, experimental metal and tribal percussion, and they do this in such a way on this release that they sound revitalised, energised and fresh.

The band’s albums are frequently exploratory and tentative in nature, with a mix of straightforward metal tracks and more experimental ones that see them pushing the envelope and trying new things. Continue reading “Sepultura – Machine Messiah (Review)”
