Rorcal – Muladona (Review)

Rorcal – Muladona (Review)

Rorcal - MuladonaRorcal are a Swiss blackened post-metal band and this is their fifth album.

Rorcal are an ever-shifting beast, producing a wealth of material over their career spanning doom, drone, post-metal, and black metal. After the furious blackened assault of κρέων (Creon), Muladona is a different proposition. Continue reading “Rorcal – Muladona (Review)”

Timeworn – Leave the Soul for Now (Review)

Timeworn – Leave the Soul for Now (Review)

Timeworn - Leave the Soul for NowThis is the third album from Timeworn, a Norwegian sludge metal band.

This is riff-friendly sludge metal, with both a hardcore influence and an atmospheric one. There’s a mix of the harsh and the beautiful here, which is weighted towards the energetic former, but the latter is still an important part of the band’s sound too. Façade – The Eternal Dance (Review)

Façade – The Eternal Dance (Review)

Façade - The Eternal DanceFaçade are a doom band from the Netherlands and this is their second album.

This is the follow up to 2017’s Loathe, featuring 54 minutes of new material. These songs are generally longer and even more rich in substance and delivery than those of the debut, which is no mean feat. It sounds as if a lot of work has gone into The Eternal Dance. Moanaa – Torches (Review)

Moanaa – Torches (Review)

Moanaa - TorchesMoanaa are a Polish post-metal band, and this is their latest EP.

Both 2014’s Descent and 2016’s Passage made great impressions, so when a new 26-minute EP appeared, it was a time of rejoicing. This EP contains three tracks – two original cuts and a Placebo cover, the latter of which features a guest vocalist. Continue reading “Moanaa – Torches (Review)”

Rosk – Remnants (Review)

Rosk – Remnants (Review)

Rosk - RemnantsThis is the second album from Polish post-black metallers Rosk.

One of the absolute highlights of 2017 was Rosk’s superb debut album Miasma. It’s now 2019, and I was thrilled to receive Rosk’s latest album Remnants. However, this soon turned to trepidation, as I discovered that Remnants is not another post-black metal masterpiece. Rather, it’s an acoustic post-folk one, and my initial Continue reading “Rosk – Remnants (Review)”

Lambs – Malice (Review)

Lambs – Malice (Review)

Lambs - MaliceLambs are an Italian post-metal/sludge/hardcore band and this is their debut album.

It’s been a while since I last caught up with Lambs, but it seems that time has been good to them. They now operate in more atmospheric waters than they used to, despite a large portion of their sound still being fuelled by rage and hatred. Continue reading “Lambs – Malice (Review)”
