Nephren-Ka – La Grande Guerre de L’Epice (Review)

Nephren-KaNephren-Ka are a French death metal band and this is their second album.

Ooooh, now this is one I’ve been eagerly waiting for. Nephren-Ka’s debut album The Fall of Omnius was a fantastic record, one that ended up being the number one pick for my best of 2013 end of year list. Its follow up is well overdue, but now it’s finally here. Continue reading “Nephren-Ka – La Grande Guerre de L’Epice (Review)”

Leucosis – Liminal (Review)

LeucosisLeucosis are a US black metal band and this is their third album.

This is atmospheric black metal merged with a rawer USBM approach. This results in music that has a lot of both presence and strength, which is one of the reasons why I find Leucosis’ work so compelling. Continue reading “Leucosis – Liminal (Review)”

Army of Dagon – Night of the Mystics (Review)

Army of DagonThis is the second album from Army of Dagon, a doom metal band from the US.

Arch Enemy – Will to Power (Review)

Arch EnemyThis is the tenth album from Arch Enemy, a Swedish melodic death metal band; although it’s likely that this is a band that you need no real introduction to.

On Will to Power Arch Enemy sound invigorated and full of fresh life. It has the trademark Arch Enemy sound and style, of course, but enhanced and honed to a deadly point. In some ways it’s probably their most diverse album to date, although you should obviously take that within the context that it’s meant. Continue reading “Arch Enemy – Will to Power (Review)”

Interview with Skies in Motion

Skies in Motion Header

Skies In Motion are very close to unleashing their fiery debut album Life Lessons. Full of emotive power and forceful energy, the songs on this release hit the spot quite nicely if you’re someone with a taste for modern metallic hardcore. I’m listening to it again now, and it’s a bloody hugely infectious listen I must say. You’ve got to check it out.

Without further ado, let’s find out a bit more about what makes this band tick… Continue reading “Interview with Skies in Motion”

Der Weg Einer Freiheit – Finisterre (Review)

Der Weg Einer FreiheitThis is the fourth album from German black metal band Der Weg Einer Freiheit.

This is dark and emotive black metal that mixes an atmospheric approach with one born out of a love of furious aggression and blazing extremity. Imagine a mix of Wolves in the Throne Room, Downfall of Gaia, Alcest, and Marduk; taking the best elements of each to form an atmospheric and molten delivery.
