Arkaik – Nemethia (Review)

ArkaikArkaik are a death metal band from the US and this is their fifth album.

This is technical/progressive death metal, showing a band that have built on the strengths of 2015’s Lucid Dawn and taken them to their logical conclusion on Nemethia. Continue reading “Arkaik – Nemethia (Review)”

Gutslit – Amputheatre (Review)

GutslitThis is the second album from Indian death metallers Gutslit.

I have a certain fondness for Gutslit’s 2013 debut album Skewered in the Sewer. This was an extremely enjoyable release that took brutal death metal and injected a Gorerotted-style sense of playful groove and belligerence into it, resulting in a very memorable and effective album that also made it high into my best of 2013 list. Septic Flesh – Codex Omega (Review)

Septic FleshSeptic Flesh are a symphonic death metal band from Greece and this is their tenth album.

A new release from Septic Flesh is always something to get a lot more excited about than that of your average band. Make no mistake either; this is definitely worth getting excited about.

Here’s a band that seems to be going from strength to strength for the last decade or so, and Codex Omega is another top-quality addition to their discography. Continue reading “Septic Flesh – Codex Omega (Review)”

Nephren-Ka – La Grande Guerre de L’Epice (Review)

Nephren-KaNephren-Ka are a French death metal band and this is their second album.

Ooooh, now this is one I’ve been eagerly waiting for. Nephren-Ka’s debut album The Fall of Omnius was a fantastic record, one that ended up being the number one pick for my best of 2013 end of year list. Its follow up is well overdue, but now it’s finally here. Continue reading “Nephren-Ka – La Grande Guerre de L’Epice (Review)”

Wardomized – Red Death (Flows Through My Veins) (Review)

WardomizedWardomized are a UK death/thrash metal band and this is their second EP.

From the moment the EP starts you’re left with no doubt about the old-school pedigree of Wardomized. They seem to have instantly managed to nail down a sound that’s been torn from the 80s, both from a recording point of view and also a stylistic one. Continue reading “Wardomized – Red Death (Flows Through My Veins) (Review)”

Arroganz – Primitiv (Review)

ArroganzThis is the fourth album from Germany’s Arroganz, a black/death metal band.

My last encounter with Arroganz was their previous 2014 album Tod & Teufel, and now they have returned with a new slab of dark music, but one that has seen the band undergo a blackened metamorphosis of sorts. Continue reading “Arroganz – Primitiv (Review)”

Antiversum – Cosmos Comedenti (Review)

AntiversumThis is the debut album from Antiversum, a blackened death metal band from Switzerland.

Okay, so I’ve tentatively labelled this as blackened death metal simply for ease of description in the introduction, but the reality is that this is more of a black/death/doom hybrid. It all sits under a suitably blackened and grim aegis though, powered by a vicious death metal intensity. Continue reading “Antiversum – Cosmos Comedenti (Review)”

Horrified – Allure of the Fallen (Review)

HorrifiedHorrified are a UK death metal band and this is their third album.

The progression from Horrified’s old-school death metal debut album Descent into Putridity and their sleeker melodic death metal incarnation on last year’s Of Despair was both marked and accomplished. Continue reading “Horrified – Allure of the Fallen (Review)”
