Blaze of Perdition – Conscious Darkness (Review)

Blaze of PerditionThis is the fourth album from Polish black metallers Blaze of Perdition.

2015’s Near Death Revelations was a hideously enjoyable release, succeeding in capturing the essence of what makes sophisticated, forward-thinking black metal so compelling and engaging. Continue reading “Blaze of Perdition – Conscious Darkness (Review)”

Forgotten Tomb – We Owe You Nothing (Review)

Forgotten TombThis is the ninth album from Forgotten Tomb, an Italian black/doom/sludge metal band.

I do have a particular fondness for Forgotten Tomb. Over the years they have morphed from depressive black metal into some form of reeking, hideous piece of blackened sludge nastiness. They’ve reached the point now on We Owe You Nothing that they’ve just thrown everything that they like about darkness and hatred into 42 minutes of blackened sludge doom. Mork – Eremittens Dal (Review)

MorkMork is a one-man Norwegian black metal band and this is his third album.

ZudZud are a US black metal band and this is their second album.

Blut Aus Nord – Deus Salutis Meæ (Review)

Blut Aus NordBlut Aus Nord are a black metal band, (among other things), from France. This is their twelfth album.

Ctulu – Cultus in Tenebris (Review)

CtuluCtulu are a German black metal band and this is their latest EP.

Between 2011’s Sarkomand and last year’s self-titled album, Ctulu showed great progression. On this latest EP the band have continued to develop and refine their sound, unleashing 19 minutes of sophisticated, well-written black metal Continue reading “Ctulu – Cultus in Tenebris (Review)”

Vassafor – Malediction (Review)

VassaforVassafor are a black metal band from New Zealand and this is their second album.

Now this is a nasty, otherworldly offering. With immense songs and monstrous presence, this is individualistic black metal that liberally pilfers from the darkest recesses of death metal to produce a harrowing, ugly album of darkness and bleak, blackened soundscapes. Continue reading “Vassafor – Malediction (Review)”
