Boris – Dear (Review)

BorisBoris are a legenday group from Japan. Over the years they have produced so much music in so many different styles it’s actually quite difficult to keep up with them. Suffice to say, whatever they do, they usually do it very well indeed.

The last time we caught up with Boris it was only a year or so ago, with their split/collaboration with Merzbow. This was experimental noise at its very best, a style I’m not a huge fan of, but done so well that I couldn’t help but take to it. Continue reading “Boris – Dear (Review)”

Tchornobog – Tchornobog (Review)

TchornobogThis is the debut album from Tchornobog, a black/death/doom metal one-man project from the US.

Melvins – A Walk with Love and Death (Review)

MelvinsMelvins are a US sludge/metal/rock/doom band and this is their latest album.

A Walk with Love and Death is an album of two halves. The Death side is a ‘normal’ Melvins album, (whatever that means in the context of their ever-changing style), while the Love side is a film score to a short film that shares the same name as this album. Continue reading “Melvins – A Walk with Love and Death (Review)”

Tarlung – Beyond the Black Pyramid (Review)

TarlungTarlung are an Austrian doom/sludge/stoner band and this is their second album.

This is a powerful mix of stoner, sludge and doom. Lasting over 66 minutes, the band crawl and slither their way through the playing time with gritty heaviness and slothful aggression. Continue reading “Tarlung – Beyond the Black Pyramid (Review)”

Skyeater – The Maw of Time (Review)

SkyeaterSkyeater are a blackened doom band from the US and this is their debut album.

Featuring members of Crowhurst, The Maw of Time is an album that mixes black metal and funeral doom. I must say that the resulting four tracks are quite exceptional. Continue reading “Skyeater – The Maw of Time (Review)”
