Hot on the heels of 2020’s Bloem, Fluisteraars have now returned with 36 minutes of new material. On their latest release Fluisteraars once again return to their longer offerings, (there are only three songs here, and the longest lasts 20 minutes), and they do so with skill and potency. Wolves in the Throne Room – Primordial Arcana (Review)

Wolves in the Throne Room - Primordial ArcanaThis is the seventh album from US black metallers Wolves in the Throne Room.

A new Wolves in the Throne Room album is a huge event, especially for me, as they’re essentially one of my favourite bands.

With a rawer, sharper sound than Continue reading “Wolves in the Throne Room – Primordial Arcana (Review)”

Withered Land – The Endless Journey (Review)

Withered Land - The Endless JourneyWithered Land are a black metal band from Belarus, and this is their debut album.

Ulvik – Cascades (Review)

Ulvik - CascadesUlvik are a Canadian black metal band and this is their second album.

Cascades contains 32 minutes of atmospheric black metal. What it might lack in quantity it makes up for in quality. Ulvik have produced an enjoyable, satisfying slice of darkness here. The Negative Bias – Tapeworm Pyramids (Review)

The Negative Bias - Tapeworm PyramidsThis is the latest EP from Austrian black metallers The Negative Bias.

Ever since first being exposed to The Negative Bias’s cosmic black metal on their split with Golden Dawn, I’ve been hungry for some more material from this band. As such, the 22 minutes on offer on Tapeworm Pyramids is very well-received. Continue reading “The Negative Bias – Tapeworm Pyramids (Review)”

Ennoven – Empty Passes, Silent Trails (Review)

Ennoven - Empty Passes, Silent TrailsThis is the second album from Polish one-man post-black metal band Ennoven.

This is the follow up to 2014’s Redemption, which was a very enjoyable debut record. Empty Passes, Silent Trails, however, is on another level entirely. It contains only four tracks, but lasts 47 minutes, and spans a world of emotion and mood. Continue reading “Ennoven – Empty Passes, Silent Trails (Review)”

Worm Shepherd – In the Wake ov Sòl (Review)

Worm Shepherd - In the Wake ov SòlWorm Shepherd are a blackened deathcore band and this is their debut album.

Blackened melodies expand with fiery grace and keyboards swell with malevolent doom, only to be cruelly cast aside by cold, merciless slams when the moment is right. Worm Shepherd play a form of blackened deathcore that combines Continue reading “Worm Shepherd – In the Wake ov Sòl (Review)”

Klamm – Misanthropocene (Review)

Klamm - MisanthropoceneThis is the third album from black metal band Klamm.

Misanthropocene is an interesting and engaging album that offers the listener a modern and layered interpretation of black metal. The style is rooted in the atmospheric one, but also takes in elements of the melodic, avant-garde, and post-black Continue reading “Klamm – Misanthropocene (Review)”
