Interview with Stheno and Exclusive Stream of New Song

I like grindcore. Let’s face it, who doesn’t? There are, however, a lot of bands that just don’t stand out enough to be worthy of real attention. Greek grinders Stheno are very much not one of these. The first time I ever heard them on their split with Grassroll, I was hooked, and when I found out they had their first full album coming out, I couldn’t wait.

Well, let me tell you in no uncertain terms – Liberty Crawls in Waste absolutely rocks. Or grinds, I suppose. But still. Stheno’s debut album is unleashed fully on the world on September 20th via EveryDayHate, but you don’t have to wait that long to get a taste of the glorious blackened brutality that they have to offer…

Today Wonderbox Metal is proud to premiere the second track on their album – Hail Nothing. The song is a blinder, all slithering malevolence and grim hatred. Six-Score – Lebensräume (Review)

This is modern-edged grind with plenty of aggression and attitude.

Cara Neir/Wildspeaker – Guilt and His Reflection (Review)

Cara Neir are a black metal/crust/grind/whatever band from the US. They have teamed up with Wildspeaker, a blackened sludge/crust band, also from the US.

I’m a big fan of Cara Neir, so as far as I’m concerned any release of theirs is well worth giving a listen to. On this split they contribute seven songs spread over 21 minutes.

Existench/Deboned – Split (Review)

This is a split between two Canadian grindcore bands – Existench and Deboned.

First up we have Existench, with just under 7 minutes of intensity.

Unborn Suffer – Nihilist (Review)

Unborn Suffer are a deathgrind band from Poland, this is their fifth album.

Nihilist is 28 minutes of brutal death metal and grindcore, both mixed together and boiled alive to create a particularly dirty strain of deathgrind. It’s also quite a non-standard release – not because the band do anything wildly original, but because they’ve firmly stamped their music with their own mark.

Urobilinemia – Wriggling Chrysalis of Metaphysical Grudge (Review)

Urobilinemia are a Japanese brutal death metal/deathgrind band. This is combination of their split with 妖神楽 (Ayakasi Kagura) and their debut EP.

Featuring a hard-to-decipher band logo and some quite striking cover artwork, the band make a good impression before you even listen to them. And once you do, all Hell breaks loose.

Bent Sea/To Dust – Ascend/Descend – Split (Review)

This is a split release between Bent Sea and To Dust, both of which play grindcore and both of which feature a plethora of members/ex-members of bands such as Aborted, Megadeth, Soilwork, Napalm Death, (Bent Sea), and Abigail Williams, Vintage Warlords, Humanity Is Cancer, Grave Plague, Fountain of Piss, Severed Remains, The Black Dahlia Murder and Phobia, (To Dust).

Phew. As you can see, there’s a lot of experience here.

Sonic Poison – Harsh Demonstration (Review)

Sonic Poison are a Finnish grindcore band and this is their latest release.

Playing a primitive, old-school strain of grinding violence, this EP combines grind, crust, ugly thrash and Repulsion-worship into under 10 minutes of nasty carnage.
